I just had a pair of wood ducks make a nest in a palmetto tree in my backyard. Even saw three ducklings jump out. One didn't make it but as soon as they left a pair of blue birds started poking around the palmetto. Now I'm watching the nest of great blue herons with four chicks, all from my back porch.

Saw a pair of loons while paddling this morning. Couldn't get a good picture before they dove.

I'm not even a birbfren, but that ebird link has got me planning a trip to see what I can find locally.. its even got pictures for me to cross reference.

Out here in Florida we only get loons in the ocean and they are nearly impossible to see because they float so far from the shore.

Loons are pretty cool. Even if you don't see them, you will definitely hear them at night. I have a pair of trumpeter swans this year and hope to get a decent picture. I'm curious if the loons will pick a fight with them.
