But either way, the situation you described is literally the only thing I've been able to find information on. I'm thinking of a slightly different situation though-
(And please keep in mind I don't plan on using this without professional consultation, just for the sake of knowledge)
-Instead of the ATC on your person, what if you anchored it from the guide loop and left the middle of the rope at the top.
Then, you go down to the bottom (rappel or walk) and tie your figure-8 into your harness from the climbing-end of the rope. So, as you move up the climbing end, you pull down the slack of the 'brake' end of the rope. You fall, it catches you just like the auto-bloc is supposed to. Then you either get on the rock and weight off the rope to get started again, or use a back-up figure-8 on the braking rope to hoist yourself up.

But yeah, the situation you describe is all I've been able to read about online. The failure possibilities I see are
>The device doesn't load properly from the guide loop when you fall You die.
>The guide loop breaks You die.
>You fall on the rope, and are unable to take your weight off it You hopefully have more knowledge than myself.
