The people in this thread, they're the ones that drop, like flies, at the start of the trail. The AT is probably the most physically demanding trail in the world, if you manage to complete it your body/metabolism will never be the same again. There's plenty of solitude, and at the same time you will become hypersocial. Everyone you meet who isn't hiking treats you like a mini celebrity. The closest thing I can think of it being is like a Labrador that everyone loves. The other trails aren't like that.
I start in April FWIW, if you really have to flip flop who gives AF.. Face it when it comes. Absolutely go Nobo. The hypersocial stuff is part of the trail, I guarantee you'll end it with a bigger closer group of friends than anyone in this thread has
