I was sitting on a rock reading a book in the mountains when I heard an extremely low pitched and quiet whoom whoom whoom sound. A few minutes later this handsome fella rolled up displaying and calling. I have never seen or heard a dusky grouse display, so that was pretty neat. Even though it was only about 20 yards away, the call was barely audible and low pitched enough that it almost could not be heard.
