Don't get me wrong..I am 100% lawful when innawoods but nothing is worse than solutide of the wilderness ruined by a jackass with a badge and a uniform asking questions. As with almost all other LEOs, 99% of what they enforce are victimless crimes.

On the show one of them said, "Everybody dreams of being a Warden...I"m living the dream." These are some fucked up dreams. Annoying people and consuming tax dollars for a living.

Agreed. I've met a few cool rangers but far more dicks, many of which were actually inexperienced in terms of /out/ type things, making it even more obnoxious when they come stomping through the woods to remind you that the wilderness is gone and you're just playing make believe.

I don't know about the rest of the US, but in Alaska, the state park rangers are mostly dickheads that are perfectly content to try and assume the authority of the other police forces when they have minimal training.

My real beef is with the wildlife troopers. These people are fucking useless because Alaska Fish & Game does not give a flying fuck about anything other than the salmon season and compiling travel brochures for tourists.

Let me drop an excerpt from this February that I dug up from another board's archive:

Here's what I had happen last winter:

>She was so persistent that she cut herself on the fence and got blood in the snow
>A fat pregnant cow managed to tear away some of the fence wire in a few spots and then refused to leave the property

My fence is 7' tall, cost 10 grand to put up back in the 90's, and is constructed from pressure-treated lumber and 9-gauge wire. It has kept them out for many years, but the past couple of winters have seen them become increasingly aggressive. That broken post took some serious effort on that animal's part.

This is the response people always get from the wildlife troopers. They will do absolutely nothing to help you unless someone has been killed, instead preferring to ruin the life of anyone that hits a moose on the highway (that's a criminal case that you just cannot win in this state). They do nothing to prevent this shit, either. People are constantly feeding the fucking moose because they're too stupid to realise they're not just some cutesy lawn ornament, and nobody has the sense to stop them. To anyone who does this: fuck you. Wild animals are not pets, but if you teach them that they're rewarded by coming up to people's houses, then it's homesteaders like me that end up paying for it.

I don't even know why we have this branch of "law enforcement"; they don't enforce shit.

Ps, Rangers come in two flavors; those who realize 99% of thier job is Public Relations and little over compensating macho pricks.

Perceentages will vary. Longer service terms tend to mellow the prick factor. But that may just be that 20 years ago better people were applying.

There used to be rangers who'd patrol some wooded land near me (UK) and tbh, they were massive cunts.

The first couple times that happened i did nothing... after that, I started chucking hairspray cans in the fire just as we left. They started to leave us alone.

Some of the best people I've met, used to hunt with my local wardens during deer season, back when they actually had free time to do so. The reason they treat you like shit, or anybody else, is usually said persons fault. Watch any of these shows, anybody getting stopped is a complete piece of shit who acts like a cunt from the get go, the respectful and honest ones are usually let off.

The hilarious thing is that Fish & Game capture problem bears in parks and more urban areas and release them in what is basically my backyard. So I think of what I do as more of a public service than anything else. The bucks are a guilty pleasure I'll admit that much.

As long as you keep to yourself, don't trespass, and don't otherwise flagrantly disregard the law, they won't give you any trouble. Besides, the real problem is parks and wildlife refuges having a billion obtrusive regulations. All they do is enforce them.

It sure would be nice to be able to camp anywhere on earth without getting arrested, though.
