>>2145258I don't do much in the way of extended back-country hiking, only day hikes. The most popular area, by far, is Dolly Sods, but also the most crowded, because you are up on the allegheny front plateau so it is cool in summer and some areas have nice views.
I'd recommend Seneca Creek backcountry, to the immediate west of Spruce Knob there are trails linking up all over you could spend a few days on, as well as Otter Creek Wilderness a bit further west is a bit less crowded. There's also cranberry backcountry which has a lot of longer trails you could spend a while in.
