bare eyed is pretty low quality most places except like pic related. but for large things like staring at the moon or mars, my basic walmart telescope has been awesome pretty much anywhere

ive tried to do some (very) amateur astrophoto with a fuji x100s mirrorless that already performs like shit in low light and only has one setting for long exposure (30 sec iirc) but ive had ok results in spite of that. nothing like a astro set up DSLR obviously

I also caught the neowise comet last year which im very greatful for, this was the only campsite we had a good view of it that wasnt too obscured by the sunset for longer exposures thankfully

These were taken with a Huawei p30 pro. Highest iso setting and a 30 second exposure. Outperformed the DSLR that came on the trip. I reckon I should get a tripod for it next

Get some binoculars and learn the constellations first. I can see Jupiter's moons with my 15x70 sky masters. Look for bigger aperture (the second number) and generally you don't dip much above 10x magnification. 10x50 will give you nice views of the moons and planets. If you enjoy it enough then take the dive into telescopes.

pretty photo but your DLSR must have an issue if the iso muddies detail more than that picture from your phone. Are you experienced with photo editing? maybe you'd be impressed how much detail raw files actually contain
