theres two rods being sold on marketplace like ebay in my country but i cant find any reviews on them. one is a "Team Daiwa softlure" the other one is a Daiwa crossfire super strong which comes with two tip pieces, oneis 10-45g, M, fast, the other is 6-21, ML, extra fast. he is asking 60 euros for it but i have no idea how good the rod is, i just know daiwa is pretty good in general. does anybody know? I actually dont have a proper rod, just started and im using an 8 year old rod, so would this perhaps fulfill my needs for both a light and medium/heavy scenario? pretty interesting

Where are you located? In most areas, you can easily sustain yourself with the good ol' fashioned worm on the bottom if you don't mind eating suckers and bullheads. Unless you are in an overfished shithole, your main concern would honestly just be lack of variety in your diet and mercury if you are fishing for predators.

I was going to fish my local river, Dnieper and some agricultural channels of it. Usually the fishes I can catch are crussian carp, perch, bullheads and occasional pike.

Baitcaster users are literally retards. They claim to be experienced and higher-skileld, yet tell you to reel with your left hand on a spinning reel but your right hand on a baitcaster. It makes ZERO sense. You want your dominant thumb to work the spool(fine motor skills) and you don't want to have to swap hands after every cast like these retarded boomers do. it's nearly half the price in the us, but everything is more expensive in europe. I've never held one personally, but the specs and options look like other great daiwa rods that I own, and I've always liked daiwas ability to make good feeling budget rods. I have the aird-x for example which is a $50 rod, and it feels amazing at that pricepoint. I say try the crossfire in a 6ft6 or 7ft medium or medium heavy, one piece specifically. It should feel great. The medium heavy will probably even cast lures below the minimum listed range like mine does. I can comfortably cast 1/8oz even though it says minimum 1/4oz. so if you want a very versatile rod, get the medium. I'd say get the medium heavy only if you plan to throw bigger stuff like 1/2oz-1oz swimbaits.

yeah i really cant find an aird x, even tried to search for europe in general, all the amazons, but no luck. same for shimano sellus and a few other rods that are praised online. theres a couple places selling ugly stik gx2's but for like 50-60 for the rod. if its the case that the medium one can throw light lures that's really nice, and i want a really versitile one indeed. the first 3 in pic related are mediums i believe. for versitiliies sake i guess the 10-40 gram is my best bet

the aird-x is always sold out in most options here in the US. I'm currently trying to find a 6ft6 medium lite to add to my collection. it almost seems as if maybe they are discontinuing them or something. I hope not. I got the medium heavy because I wanted to throw larger swimbaits without going with a baitcasting setup.

What kind of fishing? If you want a setup that is versatile and can be used for everything, I'd suggest a Penn Battle 3 reel in 2500 size. If specifically targeting big saltwater fish, you want something like a 4000 size reel or bigger to hold way more line.

It should be a good all-rounder for panfish and bass. The rods that come with these are a little more limber than the specs lead you to believe, so the 2000 combo feels more like a light rod, and the 3000 one feels more like your typical medium light. the 3000 series will also hold enough line to make it suitable for large lakes. I'd use 15lb powerpro braid on it, with like a 10lb mono leader. that braid casts amazingly smooth on my battle 3. never even got any wind knots or problems.

also, pick up a handful of these. the 1/8oz works good for panfish, and the 1/4oz works good for bass. they are cheaper at walmart if you'd rather buy them there, but they are good simple lures that are easy to use. you just cast them out and retrieve them steadily. I've had very good success with the white colored ones, and black/chartruese.

Everywhere I fish in the southeast US they do. I do however mostly fish ponds. I always carry beetle spins of every size with me. The big panfish are always caught on 1/8oz for some reason. I catch dinks on 1/32oz and 1/16oz. the white 1/8oz beetle spin has caugh two of my PB sunfish. I'm talking hogs. works well with crappie too even though everyone says they prefer smaller shit.

I catch crappie on 1/8oz and a Gulp Minnow in the spring and fall but this last week I had to downsize to a 1/64oz Trout Magnet head to get them to stay on enough to set hooks.

Looks like just a plain old Greenie. Back to the jighead discussion, Greenies are one thing I apparently don't have any of any where I fish. Since they have bigger mouths, I absolutely believe 1/8oz jigheads are the best size for them but I've only ever caught one while Ned Rigging at a lake I've been to once.

If it is a warmouth, those and rock bass are two other species I also never catch. I get bluegills, shellcrackers, longears, and crappie. So maybe I'm just biased because I only have the smaller-mouthed panfish around me.

I take pics of all the ones I catch, even the dinks. It's pretty cool the amount of hybrids there are. They are easy to catch fish and it's exciting when you get a big fat one. Almost every big one I've caught was when bass are on the beds in the shallows. Cast near some floating vegetation/algae, and when they hit you think you have a bass on until you see it. They fight good. I'm guessing the big ones don't fear the largemouth because they seem to be stalking the beds of the largemouth.

Do yellow bass ever get bigger than this? I caught a shitload of them this size while crappie fishing and they probably fight harder pound-for-pound than anything else fresh water I can catch on a UL, guys this size were pulling drag and bending my rod more than crappies that pushing close to a pound, but they're also fucking annoying because they made me burn through the last of my Gulp Minnows.

I catch way less than I could because I don't kill. I won't even use a live worm for bait. In a survival situation I would, but I killed enough creatures as a kid. Realized how pointless it was and I had really bad karma it seemed so I gave pacifism towards animals a try, and it worked, be it placebo or not. I even hesitated getting back into fishing, but I release everything. Not a vegan though. There are times when someone I'm fishing with uses live bait and obviously that catches more fish in certain situations, but I always think about if I were born that creature. The sme feeling cannot be said about humans. They command the respect they deserve by their individual actions.

Landed my first fish in over a decade about an hour and a half ago. I only go out once in a blue moon, but I'm attempting to rectify this mistake this year by going out more.

He appears to be a rainbow trout, if google is any help to me. My very rough, poor estimates make him about 10" in total length, and maybe 5 or 6 pounds weight. He made up a good fight, I suppose he didn't want his picture taken.

I let him go, however. I didn't bring anything to keep him in and even if I did, I don't have the right tools needed to dress him properly.

I used a Shakespeare Wild Series Trout rod/reel combo I picked up today at my local Bomgaars, Trilene XL 6lb monofilament and a dark brown Trout Magnet, with one of those dinky little foam bobbers the kits come with.

tl;dr: went fishing, caught fish, let it go.

Because it's the easiest line type to tie knots with. I tried straight 8lb braid forever ago and it was too limp and thin for me to tie knots easily, but it was Power Pro and IDK if J-Braid will be any better in that department. Since I have so much of it, I might try just straight fucking fluoro on the reel first if I wasn't so sure half of it will shit off the spool the first time I open my bail.

Power Pro is some boomer shit. Get some 8 strand braid, I never have any of the issues typically attributed to braid. You don't need to go lower than 4 lb mono equivalent diameter unless you are doing some specialty sniping stuff.

Depends on the fish species and size. Panfish are normally entirely safe to eat as much as you want, same with trout under 20 inches since they mostly eat bugs. If you stick with young predatory fish you are fine as long as you are not eating them multiple times per week.

The entire world has mercury problems since it is deposited in rain from burning coal. Adult males can handle it without much trouble as long as you aren't eating loads of giant, old predatory fish like pike or catfish. Problems from mercury come from feeding kids or pregnant women a lot of fish. The greater concern for an adult man is industrial pollutants like PCBs which are common in most large rivers and some lakes that had industry on them like the great lakes or lakes that had papermills on them. Avoid eating fish from areas like that.

Don't do full fluoro. Do a braid mainline and fluoro leader. I catch everything using that combo. Braid is smoother and further casting but fluoro is virtually invisible. Join the two in the ideal way.

A fishing boat is better of course, but kayak fishing is way nicer than I expected. I just had a shitty $300 Walmart Tamarack 10 footer but it did the job. Max speed is around 3.5 mph so you aren't cruising anywhere fast, but you can effectively slow troll easily enough. The main downsides other than speed are lack of secure storage (this is rectified with better, more expensive kayaks I am sure) and the fact that you cannot stand up which makes sight fishing mostly a no-go. That said, it was so stable that tipping was barely a concern and the complete control meant that I was able to vertically jig while watching the lure on my depth finder like ice fishing while making microadjustments with the paddle.

I bolted a scotty track rail onto it, and mounted a garmin striker 4 using a scotty arm mount which was an effective depth finder system for pretty cheap. For transport, I just slid the whole boat right onto the top of my car and tied it down to the roof rack with a couple tie down straps and a couple rope ratchets to attack to the front and back. From what I hear, the more expensive pedal fishing kayaks like Hobie makes are a massive improvement and some people even take them out off shore. The 14 footers are built like a tank and people pretty freely stand up in them.

Overall, I would say a fishing kayak, even a cheap one, is a massive step up from wading or shorefishing.

Kayak fishing is max outdoor comfy. It might take a bit to get used to first as you learn how to coordinate everything together (casting from a seated position, controlling drift, paddling, riding in the waves) but it's worth it. I recommend a pedal kayak for saltwater fishing. Pedaling is super useful as you can fish and move at the same time.

Watch craigslist and facebook marketplace for kayak deals. Lots of people selling their lightly used kayaks for cheap because they realized it ain't for them.

I know nothing of your locale but basically if you are in highly pressured fishing area the best bet is eating stocked trout, very easy to clean and cook and you don't have to worry about containments.

If you are somewhere with pretty good water you can filet up some crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, or channel catfish and eat that. If you live somewhere with pristine water you can fry the above whole and don't have to waste time and meat filleting.

Idk where you are but in ohio the ODNR does really well teaching info on fish species here with how, when and where to fish them. they have info on each species describing their spawning habits and when the best time of year to fish them are and they give info about each of the inland lakes and reservoir's and what fish can be found in them. they also give locations on where to park and what holes to fish for the rivers running through ohio as well. maybe your state does the same.

also don't get worked up about getting snagged or losing lures/spinners. I get snagged at least once if I'm in a new area and still lose lures every other trip and I've been fishing for 15 plus years

Walleye is my personal favourite fish. Totally delicious.
Trout, walleye and pike (Pike are a bit trickier to fillet) are all good eatings and are in the river according to pic related. In my experience pike and walleye are best caught with lures from a boat. (Walleye are most active at dusk and are usually in the deeper areas during the day so they can be tricky to catch from shore) Bass should like lures too. Live Minnows could also be a good option, wether you pluck some tiny sunfish out of the river and use them, or if you can only get big ones cut one up into chunks.
At the end of the day if you cant catch a nice fish, you could shove a stick through a sunfish and roast it over a fire just so you complete your goal.

See us guys who castnet here in Florida for baitfish know this thing where if you catch a nice big school of bait fish you end up with the smaller ones getting stuck in your net this they end up dying because the holes are too small You can buy a Cooler from Walmart for as cheap as $16 that can hold likely 30 shiners drill a hole in the top and put a air pump in it to give them air I didn't look at your bag but I'd assume it has smallholes the size of a pea so maybe it would work If its in deep water problem you'd have to is that big fish would go fish them. But I didn't read what body of water the fishing would be in so maybe their is nothing like a Shark for example but freshwater you got gars.

A Daiwa Fuego, Fenwick HMX, or Shimano Clarus would all be great choices, I know Okuma has some good stuff in that range too, but I'm not familiar with the names and such. If you can push your budget a little, I really love my Eyecons and my Triumphs from St Croix.

I would say for a beginner you should find something rated around 5-25g with a fixed spool reel, that'll let you use crankbaits and soft plastics and target pike, perch, Zander etc. Going smaller/lighter will almost always catch you more fish in most situations

Outgoing tide and wind going the same direction is best, because it will bring the smell out towards the fish, which as a result brings fish in. Soak your bait in this general area and have fun. Then this is a smooth little reel for $30. I'd suggest getting the 1000 size if you want to use 6lb mono, the 500 size is so tiny that it doesn't hold much line at all. I had the 500 with 4lb mono and it still didn't hold a ton, not that I needed it, but still. 1000 is still tiny and just gives you more line options.

Probably just carp breaching. There's a small mudhole lake near me that gets a lot of pressure from kids and such because of its accessibility that has a large population of carp. It's funny seeing people chase the carp, casting their 8" carolina rigged worms or whatever comedically oversized bait they bought at them.

Cont. caught NOTHING today. Frens, please help me, what am I doing wrong? I use a rod with a reel and 4g jig head with silicon bait. I cast them everywhere on the body of small river(~25 meters wide with maximum depth of 2-3 meters). After bait has been casted, I wait for it to hit bottom, then reel very fast twice, wait for it to hit bottom (under 1 second), then reel 2 times again, repeating this sequence until I run out of line. I’ve tried reeling in only 1 time, 3 times, tried just reeling continuously. Tried changing baits and jig heads(4,5,7 g). Been doing roughly this for 4 hours today, at 10 am first session and from 6 till 8:30 pm second session. I’m so hungry...but I will hold onto my challenge at least a week no matter whether I eat anything or not.

Is there an easy way to measure the length of line going onto reel? I want to put 100yd of backing on do I need to pre-measure? Do I find how much line is spooled with each turn and count the number of turns? you simply buy spools closest to your reel's rated capacity. most reels hold a little less than the state capacity though. for example, I have a 1000 series spinning reel that claims to hold 110yards of 6lb mono. I buy the 110 yard spool of 6lb mono, and I can spool about 100 yards onto it before it starts wanting to jump off from being overspooled.

No joke, Walmart is the place if you want to try cheapos again. They have these cheap sunglasses in their fishing department that are really good for the price. They are either branded with a lure brand like YUM, or are Ozark Trail Walmart branded. Like $5-$10, and right on par with mid-tier ($30-ish) brandname sunglasses. I have been using them for the past 4 years and broke one by crushing the lens and lost another which would have hurt a lot more if I paid more for them.
My buddy has a set of Costas which are definitely noticeably better, but not even close to $150 better. That brand has the best reputation for fishing sunglasses that I know of.

/FaT/ I come to you in a time of great need. For years my lake was just deep bottom feeder fishing which I didn’t like as I prefer bass and perch fishing. My cousin called me to tell me that he tried fishing some weeds the other day and was hooking small mouth and perch left and right. So now, after years of not fishing I got the biggest urge to get back to it yesterday. I’m determined to get back out there over the July 4th weekend so I want to go pick up a new rod and reel. Sorry disappoint but I decided to downgrade. Decided to spend more on tackle by downgrading the rod. I’ll run this setup for a summer or so and see how it goes. If I can find some decent fishing I’ll dive deeper next summer when I can pick up a fishing kayak. Right now I’m stuck fishing off a pontoon.

I can only buy what I can find locally which is basically nothing right now. Every retailer in 40 miles of me has jack shit in stock. I’ll just use this thing for the rest of the season which might be four or five more chances to fish at the most and buy a nicer rod over the winter and a cheaper reel to put on the ugly stik so I have a loaner rod. I’m just pressed for time right now, this is my last day off before the holiday weekend so it’s today or never.

backpack is better if you're in thick brush or climbing around because hands free and it stays secure, but it makes you sweat like a mofo in the summer. I use a backback for the cooler months and a smaller bag for summer. you will learn quickly to not take ALL of your tackle with you on every trip, but instead sort your boxes so that you can leave some behind when need be. smaller tackle boxes are better IMO because yeah you might have more of them total, but you can leave some behind like previously stated and travel more lightly. lots of people carry this >>2151722 and it perfectly fits 4 of the smaller cabela's branded boxes PERFECTLY in the main compartment, I forget which size the boxes are called. these bags don't usually come with a main strap to sling over your shoulder though, so you might need to buy one.

I have one in a nearby lake that always swims around while I'm night fishing. I won't be paying attention, and that little bastard will come within about 5 feet, get spooked by me, and slap his tail. It sounds like a cannonball hitting the water. Little bastard, but kind of funny. I've never had one go after me on my kayak though. That would significantly change my opinion.
