How comfy and safe is it to go on a hike with this things? I hear mixed opinions about it so was wondering if there is any sandal /out/ters.

its definitely comfy and safe. when im in an area that is too overgrown with salmon berries or is too wet/cold i rely on thin sandals like those. once you get the straps cinched up to a level that you like youll be golden

i have a pair of luna sandals that are recycled car tread with a grippier upper part. and then the laces are from Earth Laces, they have stainless steel wire running through them which is connected to a copper plug under the toe, so it grounds you to the earth while wearing them. kinda woo but its fun to try these things out

Great unless it’s rocky, you can really mess up your toes and ankles. I’ll often wear them until boots are required, like heading up to the snow for example.
Also means you have nice dry boots when you want them - I’d cross 20 creeks n rivers to get to snow where I live.
Cold? Just put some socks on.

They're comfy but your feet will take a beating if you're not used to barefoot shoes. So I recommend you start easy and build up strength in your feet and calves.
You'll feel rocks and sharp edges, it doesn't really hurts, depends on how sensitive you are, but you'll get used to it and more aware of how you walk and step down.

I got Keen Targhee III sandals because I wanted to try footwear similar to what the Romans wore for water crossings, because it covers the foot moreso than in your pic, and allows for easy water crossings. The intent was to only wear them in places with lots of water crossings, but I like them so much that I wear them everywhere. In winter I wear them with wool socks, allows me to keep my feet warm down to about 30F/0C, even if wet; this is also how the Romans wore their caligae while conquering Britain.

All of these are heavy, and no they are not indestructible, they all wear out at 300-500 mile range. Most company shoes are designed to wear out so you have to keep buying more just like your moron-phones.
A decent minimal sandal weighs next to nothing and can go 2000 miles plus.

Keen watershoes are great until the glue gives up, which will happen at the worst possible time, it happened to me but I used some Gorilla Braid and my sewing kit to repair them while I was fishing and kept on fishing. I've since added reinforcement stitches to the shoe that didn't fail, just in case.
