Yeah... but one thing all the "experts" leave out is that what a fish likes in one lake, it might not like in another pond. Bass fishing in one body of water might not be as successful as in another with the same bait. You gotta test things and see what they like depending on where you are at. Main thing is to know where they are at based on temperature and season. Sometimes, mid-day in summer just sucks dick in general. the last couple hours of daylight and in the morning are good in summer. With that said, a heavily shaded pond they might be active all day.

It is called reading. Read about the fish you want to catch. Fishing for trout is different than catfish is different than bass. Also protip: Experience as well.

If you want to get good at fishing don't use a spincaster

some are just born with an insane ability to catch fish. You can fish in the "right" spots all day long and catch absolutely nothing while these guys can plop in any tackle anywhere and pull up fish after fish.
Not much you can do about that.

Best tip I can give you, spool your reel with a super braid line, less memory and no stretch so you feel the bites and can set the hook better, tie the end of it with a small snap swivel that will fit through the guides and use leader line to tie your bait, and as others have said read up on your target species and go fishing as much as you can.

Don't sink a lot of money into rod/reel combos just yet, sure it will improve your fishing experience but not as much as learning to know where the fish are and what presentation will trigger a strike.

I can catch fish on a hobo reel, you don't need expensive/fancy gear, but it is nice to have.

Go to walmart and get a 20 dollar ozark trail baitcaster combo. Get size 2-0 hooks and get some stick worms. Look for a spot under a branch and cast a cuple of times. Repeat until successful

i dont wanna start a new thread for this maybe stupid question but i caught 3 of these Rainbow trouts yesterday and put salt on them when i got home at night, then i put them in a plastic bag in the fridge. at one now and it tasted good, but im wondering how long i can keep them in the fridge? should i cook the other two tonight as well or is it ok if i cook them tomorrow night?

I consider 3 days absolute max time in the fridge for raw fresh fish. That's about the time when they start to take on an off-flavor. Make sure you are getting all the air you can out of the bag, it's oxidation that makes them taste bad well before rot sets in.

Look up your local ponds/creeks/lakes to get a feel for what people are targeting. Panfish are where a lot of people start because they are incredibly easy to catch with live bait.

However reading and listening to others only gives you a surface level understanding (no pun intended). The best way to get good at fishing and by extension catch big fish is to spend time on the water.

Stop asking so many questions. If you wish to get good at something the worst thing you can do is overload yourself with advice and opinions. Your rod is thick which means less sensitivity. Consider getting a different rod with a different reel so you can get a feel for what you prefer. Then it’s just a matter of slowly becoming adept at one thing at a time. Tying knots. Casting. And targeting one type of fish. Get good at one type of fish and that will give you the basics and you’ll be able to go from there.

How big is the biggest one? Where I live there is no size limit on rainbows (cause they're stocked) so dipshits catch and keep a bunch of 5 inch rainbows every year. It makes it hard to find larger ones.

Anyways, you should freeze or cook them ASAP. Raw fish doesn't do well in just a fridge.
