Consider this: It's a living tradition. Some peopel are still making new music in the same vein as the traditional songs. Maybe we'll never see new capstain chants or other hauling songs... but maybe we will. And as for just songs about maritime? There are PLENTY of people making music. Some of it is just shit. But that is as it has always been. Be glad it's not dead.
I want the knotting traditions to survive, but were basically down to Ashleys book of knots and forums like the international knot tying guild that are arguably so high on their own farts, it's like the macrame version of a room full of the comic book store guy from the Simpsons...
