Went with the council tools boys axe, and after sharpening it and sanding handle i'm very happy with it. Now beginning the process of oiling the handle, been 3 days and already seeing a nice sheen on it

What axe and what do you use yours for? Mines mostly various camp duties, and while i certainly could use it to fell a full size tree, i don't expect to ever do that

Currently focusing on fishing gear (trout), but finally ordered a fixed blade for trout and small game; Grohmann #2 Bird & Trout. Can't wait for it!

Do you have axes and other stuff already? If not then get a cheap $12 harbor freight one, they just started carrying a new sku which seems to be pretty decent. Start with that and learn how to take care of one and then get a nice one.

I used axes and hatchets to build forts when I was a kid. Now that I am older, I've come to love the availability of folding hand saws. My favorite is the Silky Big Boy; it's works as well as my chainsaw.

It's one knife.
The companion comes in both stainless and carbon steel for the standard version, while I believe the heavy duty version only comes in carbon steel. It's a thicker blade, so can withstand much more abuse than the regular companion.

You can't really go wrong, they're both excellent knives for the money.
Companion HD should run around $20, while the Kansbol is more like $35 or so. Kansbol has a bigger handle and dangler sheath, companion has the standard mora sheath with the integrated belt clip. Companion is a good inexpensive starter knife if you're not sure what you want, you can always upgrade to something else later. Probably easier to sharpen the companion as well.

I have the whole skrama lineup and I use them for yard work which ends up saving me a lot of time. It's a very convenient tool for me since I have normal woods and a metric ton of thicker than wrist bamboo that just absorbs the force of an axe or hatchet and just laughs at the light thin machete I have. I also cleared my house last night with the 240 because I woke up in my home office chair and my monkey brain was freaking out for some reason. Nothing in the house but I found out there was an extreme tornado warning this morning so I assume that is what set me off.

Here's a axe head I fixed up that was $5 at a thrift shop. The handle cost about $20 and the wedge was a chunk of black walnut I had from getting firewood. If money is an object you can go this route.

The Kansbol comes with the spine ground in such a way that you can strike it against a ferro rod. The Companion comes with a smooth, finished spine that will not work against a ferro rod, although you can take a metal file to it and grind it yourself.

Never owned a decent axe before, I love this thing. A little weighty and LARP-y on shorter, easier trips, but still worth it to use as a hammer and peace of mind device. Nice to clutch when you have to shit in the middle of the night.

Always wear a sheath and put the knife away properly inside of the sheath. If I'm not putting it away in its sheath I usually stab it into a tree so its easy to spot. I also went for the bright orange Mora with orange sheath. Natural colour knives look good but are so much easier to lose...

The Bushcraft is about the same price as the Kansbol, comes in both stainless and carbon, and has the sharpened spine. Something else to consider.
