They're just one of the many different breeds of people swarming the outdoors who have no fucking clue what they are doing. What sticks out about this breed particularly are two things

They almost never make it far before turning around. Like all other clueless idiots you see /out/ they basically vanish once you get five miles from a trailhead and/or past a thousand feet or so of elevation gain. That's about all they can physically handle or all they came equipped for.
I did see a group of four of them on the Great Northern once. No water, tons of guns...they made halfway up the ridge section which is honestly miraculous. They must've made it down without incident because there was nothing on the news about a rescue up there. Doubt they summitted by I admired the send.
