>>2156419It depends on how well-known the location already is and how specific the geotagging is.
Here is an example of someone ruining a formerly pristine location by posting exact lat/long coordinates on AllTrails:
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/hidden-waterfall-trailThat was a clear violation of LNT as far as I am concerned because it resulted in degradation of a waterfall and gorge area that had practically no visitation (besides me) up until a few years ago.
To access the bottom of the gorge and waterfall, you have to go off-trail at the end of the state forest trail, which hardly anyone did before some AllTrails user posted a GPX track and step-by-step instructions on how to access the waterfall.
The NYSDEC might as well extend the official trail all the way down now. It doesn't matter anymore because the area is now trashed. All because of one retard who probably isn't even a local.
For more popular areas that already see a lot of hiker traffic, post away. I'm mostly concerned about preserving places that receive little or no visitation, such as secluded waterfalls, caves, rock cities, and overlook spots that have no trails nearby. I never post those locations or photos online.
