Cats are either spacious or fast, and the fast ones will have less space than a mono of similar length especially on newer monos with a wide stern (2 narrow canoes vs 1 big boat). tris and proas are even more extreme, which is also why they have the highest records for circumnavigations etc (1 narrow canoe instead of 2, but proportionally faster).
problem is, people want space on a boat they live on which is why u see so many cats with a saloon between 2 wider canoes that slows them down tremendously. same with tris that have a big saloon connecting the amas with the canoe.
a solid heavy monohull will always be safer than any multihull simply because its self righting.
a light multihull will always be faster than any displacement monohull.
imo if you want speed and dont need a lot of space, get a tri or a proa, if you want space get a monohull. if you want a sailing house get one of those gay cruising cats.
