While in Italy someone has cut my tent. The place is well hidden, far from any hikers paths and houses, the land is not cultivated, basically just bushes and a torrent. I've slept there many nights and many years.
Weird thing is that the tent itself wasn't unzipped, I left it fully zipped up and that's how it was. There was nothing expensive inside other than the tent bags and some napkins.
The cuts were symmetric on both sides on the roof above the entrance, made with some sort of knife and there were signs of the first puncture attempts.
Def not an animal, my jar of honey was gone, my metal sopa box was gone but half-empty jar of peanut butter was there.
I went to the local village police to discuss it, they advised me to find the cowboys, there are plenty of cows during the summer on the slopes and in winter this is a ski town. I managed to find one cowboy who was clearly decent and had no other workers who could do this.
Also, the local police contacted the forest office (my first suspicion) if they did it but naturally they wouldnt be cutting and stealing food.

Basically, I was sitting in an ambush waiting for them to come back to no avail so had to come back home to another country.
The tent has served me well for 10 years, I bought it in march 2011. It's an MSR, old style and the most reliable hubba hubba.
The inner mesh wasn't cut, only the green outer one (deliberately to ruin it and of course, day later there ws a rain and it drove me nuts trying to cover the cuts.

I wrote to MSR, still waiting for an answer, I have no receipts of buying it, it's been 10 years.
Do they do such repairs?
I will try to repair it myself if they refuse, any advice is welcome.
It was a very evil act, I would understand if the test was stolen, that is always a risk but to damage it deliberately? What have I done to them? It wasnt a farm land, likely state, because the torrent had little dambs build down stream, so that's why at first I was convinced It was the rangers
