My son is a couple of months old. Can't wait to go /out/ with on a nice camping trip. Nothing too wild, but he shouldn't grow up indoors only.
When should I start.

They either need to be young enough to where they can’t get in trouble on their own, which will be a lot of extra work, or old enough to have the patience to listen and not get in trouble while you are doing something.
Haven’t gone camping with my 2yo yet, but we hung out by the river and he got his first taste of mountain house on the 4th. He kept wanting to play with the gas adjustment on my pocket rocket, but knows and understand what it means when I say something is hot

My son turned four this year and we did our first overnight innatent in the backyard. Fire pit, s'mores, the whole nine as part of his Birthday. Ive done the bqckyard thing a couple times now, and would be confident taking him real camping at this point, but havent had the opportunity yet. I wouldnt drag him deep innawoodz yet, but he's totally ready for a day at the state park, a trip out on the kayak, and a night in a campsite.
What I struggle with is his attention span when /out/ for example, we are NOT ready for fishing yet, tried it, he got bored and was over it in about 15 minutes.
That said, we've been hiking together since he was small enough for the carrier. Pic related

First time I went hiking with mine in the carrier, I accidentally caused his face to be scratched by a branch because I was not thinking about how high up he sat on my back.
That said, he still managed to enjoy the trip and the $70 Amazon carrier was comfortable enough and held up for the week.

I was taking multiday camping trips before I was 6 months old and in June we took our 7 month old to Voyageurs for a 3 night trip. So long as you can protect them from the sun and from the bugs, there's literally no drawback to early exposure. Babies are way less work /out/ than toddlers and if you create a habit of taking your kid /out/ while it's easy, you're way more likely to stick to it when it's more challenging.

Bad idea, the kid is far to young. Maybe start with backyard exploration and then when he gets older (3 or 4) start doing car camping trips and take it from there. Just know kids attention spans are extremely short so you need to actually have a plan for it to be fun for them.
