I don't see how it would matter, a bear can get through the sides of a tent just as easily as the side of a hammock. Getting attacked by a bear is going to suck no matter what, but in the unlikely event that it happens, I'd probably prefer the hammock. At least then you're not starting the fight already on your back on the ground, in prime mauling position. I think a tent would only be better for avoiding people, and only if you do a military style tent that can hopefully avoid being noticed at all.
