A fishing friend of mine and I are having an argument. We need an unbiased opinion, so obviously we turned to 4chins.

One says that it's better to spool up with lower lbs rated mono, and use higher lbs braid leaders, because mono has stretch and you'll lose less tackle to snags, because it's.easier to un-stuck a snag with mono, and you'll.lose fewer big fish while fighting the fish. Also, braid apparently can cut your eyelets over time, and mono can't.

The other says it's better to spool up with higher lbs braid and lower lbs mono leaders because if there's a break, you lose less line and only lose maybe a hook, as opposed to your whole leader if there's a snag that you can't un-stuck. Also you'll lose fewer big fish while fighting because you don't have all that stretch. You can also cast further with braid, and braid doesn't go brittle in 2 years.

Assume fresh water fishing maybe once every 2 months with 15-20lbs mono and 30-40lbs braid. Who's right?
