Don't listen to the haters OP. Get a DJI mini or mini 2, I bring mine out innawoods all the time. That said, the haters have a point, don't fly it places where there are other people trying to enjoy peace and quiet in nature. I fly it up on my land or way out where I know I'm alone, or where there are enough people or cars nearby that I know nobody minds another bit of noise. half of you will never see a drone since they're flown outside and the other half of you are just bitter you can't afford a decent drone.
i think a small drone could actually be useful while of course being fun. whats one of the first suggestions you are to do when lost in the wilderness? gain altitude to survey the land for landmarks. easy done with a quick drone popup without having to climb a tree (dangerous) or trekking to higher ground (get more off course).
as this is an imageboard, it seems taking pictures in nature is a favorite thing to do while out. frankly itd be nice to see a few more aerial shots here. i agree that if you're gonna bring a drone, be conscientious of your surroundings and others by not being a dick. use it, get your shot and pack it up. don't just be up there buzzing around the length of the battery.

Wilderness Zones should have the same airspace restrictions as military bases (ironically its often military aircraft that like to fly low and loud in WZs), which would be in keeping with the intent of designated wilderness as described in the law. drones and planes and portable speakers and motor vehicles etc etc are the same virus. keep intrusive tech out of the wildest of the woods. wilderness has a right to exist as it is, undisturbed. everyone but newfrens who dont go outside understands this.

OP I'd recommend a Mavic Air 2. Small enough to fit in the bottom of your backpack but also powerful enough to prevent fly-aways during 25mph winds. Decent camera, battery , functionality and durability too.
