You're able to get a lot of color variants from just 5 original colors, two of which are navy blue and one black so it appears to me like you probably have to use a lot of water mixing between the yellow and light blue or magenta. I have a lot of respect for that, I have a 9 color set and I feel like my color mixing is not as good as yours.
Also, I understand not wanting to do pencil, pen, and then the watercolor. It takes a lot longer and is more methodical. It's nice to just see a scene, do your mixing, and then put the paint to the page. Although personally my best stuff comes out when I spend 60% of my time getting my pencil sketch right, then 10% ink, followed by 30% color mixing and painting. On the other hand, it's more 'pure' to do it like how you are, especially if you're also enjoying the natural scene. Admittedly when I do pencil and pen and then color I never have enough time to finish and end up having to take a picture and go home to finish.
