A jumbo can of bear spray would would scare away a cougar right? I can't own a rifle.
I also carry a large knife If worse came to worse.

I live in the most densely mountain lion populated area in the world. They are all over the place

Peeps that got jacked by mountain lions in my area never saw it coming, both were attacked from behind and died by suffocating caused by a jaw clamped around their necks, autopsy said there was no mauling, so yeah I guess you have to see it/hear it coming. Both werelight weight women

Ear spray is going to stop just about anything that you could encounter innawoods. If the animal is protecting its young, it might just not care all too much that it feels like it’s face is on fire. So just use some caution when around wild animals and try and stay a good distance away from predators. Most really are scared of humans, but that won’t stop them from defending their food, their young, or attacking you if you surprise them. Those are the main three things you gotta look out for.

Only ~8 people died each year in the US from wildlife encounters. And I’m willing to bet that all of them were due to human error and not understand the environment they were in. Although 47k people seek medical attention due to encounters, it still should keep you from enjoying the /out/doors. Just be mindful of where you are and who you get between, and you never have to worry about becoming bear food.

Bear spray is a proven deterent. But so many factors go into any given bear encounter that nothing is fail-safe. Guys with both guns AND spray still end up dead just due to the circumstances.
