>>2165828I found a trail at the Gerald Freeman campground. We did not stay there, but we were there on a weekday morning, and it was pretty packed. Right by a river, right next to the highway, sites had individual water pumps and what looked like electricity to me as well. Fairly sophisticated for a campground.
Anyways, the trail takes you upstream along Left Fork Holly River, and would be LOVELY if not for the large-chunk gravel surface that is rather hard on the feet. If you were to continue for many miles (8?), you would eventually reach Mollohan Mill, where I have previously visited.

My first stop was Gaudineer Knob. For those not in the know, it is a smol patch of old-growth forest as well as the highest point along Shavers Mountain. The top is pretty much all conifer country, slightly lower than Spruce Knob, with a short trail (doable in slippers) to an overlook and just through a patch of the forest. Lotsa picnic tables with grills as well scattered along the trail.
