>>2169791earthquakes and landslides are the most analogous disturbances to clearcutting
>>2169058>charters for such practices in national forestsnational forests are famous in the forestry/related fields for how terribly they manage their land, as showcased by california and how the government owned land burns into toothpicks and stays barren while the privately managed land is back to relative normal after 1-5 years.
>no need to clearcut the virgin forestI agree. It happened, though, and untouched woodland is basically nonexistant in the US. Now what? We still need wood, and now that we have begun to change the environment we can't just stop, as the results fuck up the land even moreso than if we just let nature do what it wants to.
My main issue with you idealist retards is that you don't actually know what the fuck you are talking about. You read dipshittery from old boomer cunts about how everything is valuable and nature is amazing, except that doesn't fucking DO anything. How does ignoring pine beetle help pine trees? How does ignoring slash fuel loading in forests help the forest? How does refusing to log help capture carbon? We NEED to actively manage our land, because we have introduced disturbances that these environments have not evolved to survive.
example:
>california's forests used to frequent, low intensity fires that clear out brush and kill off encroaching fir/pine>US government practices 100+ years of fire exclusion, resulting in the fir/pine replacing doug-fir/redwood in areas>fire inevitably happens, now burns so hot that the redwood/doug-fir dies due to the true fir and pines adding more fuel>resulting landscape has burned so hot that the soil organisms have died and the region is turned into an effective moonscape where even the tanoak and madrone can barely survivedeep ecology doesn't work when humans have modified the environment where "normal" nature cannot compete
