Minimalist packs for dayhiking

No.2168520 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
So, Anons, I'm usually a "hike to a spot, set up camp, and stay put" kind out /out/ist. Generally on a body of water where I'll spend time fishing and whatnot. Well, I've got a trip coming up where theres a trail nearby, so we will be dayhiking out from camp instead, and it got me thinking that a small pre-packed bag that i can take hiking would be better than lugging whatever in my big-ass ruck.

So, /out/, what do you think is important to pack in a small go-bag like that? The belt bag im planning to use is about 4.5L (picrel) and i'll be carrying water separately. So far, I'm thinking:
>boo-boo tier medical stuff
>pocket knife
>pipe and tobacco
>lighter
>pocket poncho
>compass
>W.T. Snacks
>small amount of cordage
>sawyer mini
Any thoughts on what may be neccissary and whats useless dead weight?
