Yellowstone first time backpacking

A few buddies and I have decided to a take trip to yellowstone in late august to try out backpacking. none of us have ever done anything close to this just some pretty mundane camping, I was hoping you guys had some sort of advice for first time backpackers heading to this national park, Thanks!

go backpacking in your local trails before you go to yellowstone to test your equipment.

Pick a weekend and find a spot you can backpack 2-3 miles in for an easy overnighter.
That way it will take you an hour to get to your spot, which is far enough to discourage bringing excessive supplies or relying on your car, but close enough that if you legitimately forget something important, your trip isn't ruined

Do you already have a pass or are you hoping to get walk up backcountry passes?
I hope you dont think you can just walk in and be able to do that shit.
Get a decent bear can and dont sleep in your cooking clothes, Yellowstone bears will kill you for food if push comes to shove.
Also bring bear spray as the nigger rangers dont like you shooting bears, only they can.

As other anons said it is reccomended to start local, preferably in a place without grizzly bears. If you really are set on Yellowstone, you better be prepared. Camp at least 100 yards away from where you eat and store all food/scented items. These must be stored in a way that bears cannot access, either hung on a tree or in some sort of special airtight container. When choosing a site check for signs of bears: claw marks on trees, scat, tracks etc. Bring bear spray and have it ready. Make sure to make noise and walk with the wind at your back to avoid surprising a bear. There is a lot more to read up on if you're serious about it
that being said, dont let all this work stop you from enjoying one of the most beautiful places in the country. Bears are not statistically dangerous, you just don't want to be a fucking idiot

there are plenty of amazing national parks that wouldn't be so much work, for example badlands state park. Do some reading because you really can't go wrong with any national parks. Or if you really want the Wyoming experience, Bighorn national forest is very close but has only black bears which are less fatal (though still nothing to fuck with)
