>>2173491Let's not act as though farming (that includes tree farming) doesn't occupy much more land than suburbs.
Of course you're absolutely right, suburbs are a horrible way to live and there are ways to make it much better.
>>2173561>>2173893Yeah, that's the thing with americans. Everything is so polarized and dumbed down, they cannot conceive of anything inbetween suburbs and commieblocks. Also, americans live in a nation where somewhere between 13 and 50% of the population hate the rest and vice versa, so living in close proximity like civilized people is just not possible for them.
In places without much internal unrest, high(er) density towns work very well. You set aside some plots for single household homes, some for conjoined ones. Some plots for multi-household ones - say three homes for 2-3 people, one for a single person, something like that. Some of those have a garden plot alloted. Add in some cheap commieblocks - with a nice exterior of course, not literal concrete blocks. The higher the density, the poorer the occupants and the closer to the center it should be, so they can use public transportation and don't need cars. Since living in the less luxurious homes has benefits like that, more people will voluntarily live there.
