It's possible but I wouldn't even bother attempting it. You would have to get a harness for something as small as and as wriggly as a cat, and then keep their harness leashed up all the time. I imagine if you got them used to this as a kitten, they would adapt to it, but good luck trying to teach a five year old cat to wear a harness and be restrained on walks.

Don't worry the dog will outlast you by miles with all the gear you would be wearing (depending on the length of the trip obviously).

However the dogo will be so excited it could potentially strain its body too much and this has happened to me (dog had similar age). I even had to take a day off from walking because of it.

So my advice is take a long leash and limit the running so that the dog can last the whole trip. Be smart about the water situation. When you go for fetching wood for a fire never let your dog follow you in elevation also happened to me. When you parkour elevation chain your dog because the chances of the dogo slipping of the hillside are just too big when they get excited.

Lastly give it a sturdy necklace with a metal container containing your phone number. Again depending on the length of the hike.

For clarity I mean very steep elevation; when you leave the trail at night to fetch some wood in some very rough terrain. Normal elevation on the trail is no problem for them.

I know a wook who has taken his cat hiking up a few of the easier ADK mountains more than several times. Idk how. I have very well behaved cats and the hate the outdoors and just cyclone on harnesses

Like I said, probably getting them used to it as kittens. My ex had a ten year old house cat that she wanted to introduce to hiking, and I had to explain to her that it was way too late in that thing's life to get it to go on hikes.

Don’t risk it. I’ve hiked a handful of 14ers and always leave my dog at home. Get a rover or drop them at my place to keep my pup company. Only seen dogs on trails this strenuous a couple of times. Plus you’d have to carry a metric fuckton of water.
