I got shilled a 200€ pair of vibram-soled Lowas a few years ago, without realizing that the sole was an extremely soft one meant for ice and wet rocks. I'd previously had a pair of Lowa renegade TF for 10 years, so I thought getting boots from the same brand was a safe bet.
Figured I'd break them in on the way to school, which was mostly concrete, and wore of the entire profile off the heel within two or three months.
tl;dr: If you use boots (or any tool, really) for something completely different from their purpose, don't be surprised if it breaks.
