We had like maybe two weeks of smoke ruining the atmosphere here last year. It has been maybe at least 3 weeks already and it is only August. If this ruins foliage season my rage will become extreme.

It would be one thing for the west coast to experience it, for this to affect the east coast for weeks, if not months, is pure, sheer madness.

My post wasnt about 'muh smoke' it was the financial incentiv to drag it out as long as possible; the only time a fire is a priority to put out is when it gets close to "important" areas like cities, rich homes, or infrastructure

I work for a Gas and Electric distributor in the Pacific as a utility Forester. We are being told to do bad work to ensure that the client complies with the court order on paper. Less than 1/3rd of the necessary tree work got done last year. 4 out of 5 poles in a given area are borderline failing and they refuse to fix or replace them. Bear damage, bird damage, no upkeep, and old-as-dirt tech are creating conditions for mega fires. Tree crews "remove" trees by cutting them and dropping the slash directly under the lines. Up to your waist dry tinder, need to crawl through it with a hatchet on the job. In parts of PNW the sugar bears are annihilating hundreds of trees near the distribution poles in HFTDs. I don't know what actually constitutes monitoring. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be adequate. To be honest, I don't think there's any way for them to really defend the decision to monitor instead of act. It's torched a lot of land. It's destroyed an area that I liked to hike and snowshoe in, an area that my friend would do some woodcutting in, an area that some people lived in.

If you take a moment to think for yourself then it would be obvious. Fire resets the succession of plant communities and makes more baby plants. Plant communities in later successional stages are more prone to large crown fires (the bad kind) due to their structural complexity. What 100 years ago would be a patchwork of communities at varying levels of succession is now all communities at an apex successional stage, and thus all prone to starting and spreading fires. This also doensnt even consider the accumulation of plant material that occurs without regular low intensity ground fires.
