>>2190054That's what I meant.
Breathability is very nice and important, but there's so many situations and circumstances where it doesn't work (DWR is shot (i.e. jacket has been in use for more than 10 hours) and soaking wet, backpack, freezing conditions, too warm conditions etc.) and the manufacturers willingly sabotage breathability by putting fucking 3 layers on the chest, so it ends up being nowhere near as good as it could/should be.
Is it better than a plastic bag or oilskin? sure. But it's not the magic pill the ads are making it out to be.
Some things could be easily fixed (fucking pockets) and some (shoulders) aren't worth bothering, yet still everyone pretends they are.
>>2184817>UMBRELLAYeah, but no. I get the appeal, but where I'm at, I'm either in the forest, so it will get caught all the time, or I'm above tree line where it's windy and rain never comes from the top and might turn into snow any minute now (Pic kinda related, short break between the rains). Plus, even light climbing isn't really working with an umbrella.
But for tropical conditions, it probably rocks.
>>2188874Damn. Everything with it is really expensive and it feels like plastic and not very robust. I had a Mountain Hardwear GTX shell I got in 2006 and that was perfect. About 600 g, so light enough and it had a supply, quite and really robust fabric. But eventually, after 8 years, the membrane caved in. Is it really worth the price increase and reduced robustness and the noise to save 200 g?
>>2189156interesting, but not really convinced. anyone got it?
