What activity is this oriented for anon?
Too much gear, plenty of stuff in that pic that you likely don't need to carry, a 20C rated sleeping bag will not work for anything but warm summer nights.

If you're new to /out/ don't spend too much money on new gear, even if reasonably priced stuff from decathlon, you'll end up with a bunch of stuff that will need to be replaced as soon as you get serious.
We have all been there.

Still, I agree that a 20ºC sleeping bag...meh. If he had gotten a 10ºC one it would give him more flexibility.

For each their own, my backpacker bias was showing.
As for the sleeping bag, a 10C would definitely be better although still falling short on colder nights.

you can probably drop a bunch of that weight. you won't end up using most of it. picrel is my standard overnight loadout.

I call it my "mobility" build. It's mostly for 30 degree inclines on relatively well marked trails. If I'm going multiple days I usually bring more sardines and a tarp that I wear like a cape.

You're right. I shouldn't be so dismissive. OP, invest in another water bottle. It's good to carry two when you're doing any real outdoors work, in case one fails, or gets thrown off a cliff, or comes into contact with unclean water, etc.

Also, idk what's in your first aid kit, but get some immodium, iodine, and electrolyte tablets.

That's it I think. I know it's mostly clothes, gotta stay warm.
Everything goes into the milkcrate, sleeping pad gets strapped to the back.
I know it's hard to tell what's what, I'll improve it later.

I already know I like lumbar packs (tried some cheap pack)) so those things looks fucking awesome, especially with the straps for heavier loads (good add-on if my experience with cheap lumbar packs is anything to go by).
But damn things are the price of a decent backpack.

For that trip I went with the plan of just layering a bunch and sleeping on top of the bike.

Set up is a trap, sleeping bag, sleeping pad but I usually bring a piece of tyvek or a cheap drop cloth to put underneath the pad. Just didn’t have one for the load out pic

I’ve gotten most my gear by saving, waiting for clearance and sales, or occasionally using benefits from jobs for discounts. I got the sleeping pad for like 20 dollars instead of 40 because of discounts offered by a previous employer.

Need to get a smaller sleeping bag, red bag is just accessories and hammock. Should’ve gotten marpat but color blindness + dark room in the surplus store screwed me over. Everything works and I spent the cheapest amount possible for the highest quality possible.
Everything in this picture was around 160ish bucks. Also have a mess kit.

Sounds like good ideas all around. I usually stick to second hand stores and Crappy Tire. You really don't need a lot of money to go /out/. Sleeping bags seem the most important (and expensive), and it's what I struggle with the most.
