Do you pack specifically to each camping trip? Or do you just have a general innawoods kit?

This. The scouts taught me to always be prepared, so I carry my snowshoes in July.

Yes I pack different for every trip, but it's usually just the sprinkles that change.
I like experimenting with different setups too.
Season, weather, distance, method of transpo, all this stuff matters.
Why would I bring my winter jacket with me for a trip through the prairies during a heatwave?
