Just bought a shotgun and I want to go turkey hunting this fall. No one has ever taken me hunting and my only experience with it was this last fall/winter when i marched around the woods looking for squirrels/rabbits with my .22 and found nothing. What resources would you recommend for a complete and utter turkey hunting noob? Have my hunting license etc already.

I haven't seen many out recently. Go to a state forest that allows hunting and snoop around the logging roads where there's a lot of scrub. That's where I tend to seem them.

3 1/2 inch turkey loads for the shotgun. learn how to use a box call and a slate call. you want to mimic hens just a couple clucks til you here the tom gobble back.

Turkey have great eyesight so I like to set up a makeshift bling in my hunting spot around a fallen tree or something, it give you more wiggle room with not getting seen when they're up close. also get a camo facemask or facepaint they make light mesh ones so its not so hot.

buy a hen decoy and set it out in your gun range if you call in a tom they'll come up to it and start to strut.

there's two ways I hunt turkey. either scout at night and try to find the trees they use to roost and come back in the morning. I use a owl call in the morning to find the trees better. the turkeys hate them and will gobble at the sound so you can locate them and wait for them to come off the roost.

or you can try different hunting spots you know hold turkey and try a hen cluck here and there and if you don't get a response after a while keep moving.

Spring turkey is my favorite hunt. going out at 430am on a 60 degree day and only needing one layer of clothes is underrated. and you're actually calling the bird to you, you can hear the gobble get closer and closer while deer a lot of the time youre waiting to catch sight of one while you're freezing your toes off.

Tosohatchee WMA out near Christmas, FL has turkey hunting. Its in Orange County on the way to Brevard County.

you probably wont find the specific trees they're in unless you get luck and manage to see some going up to roost. just go to a spot you know hold turkey and wait and listen. Id get a owl call they really seem to respond to it in the roost but I've seen them gobble at semi's honking on the freeway the point is to narrow down the location so when you hunt you know there will be turkeys around for you to call in with your slate call

I've been doing some reading and apparently during fall turkey season you don't really use decoys or anything. Is that the case? Just find the turkeys, wait, and pop a gobbler?

Are you familiar with the florida regs at all? I'm a new hunter and no one in my family took me so it's all a little overwhelming for me.

Assuming I know where they are, would it just make sense to go out in fall and walk, occasionally call, and see what I can get? Stalking is legal during the fall season here.

no im in ohio but here at least they have a pamphlet of season dates, bag limits, and rules wherever you can get a license and you can just look it up on the florida dnr website. fall isn't their mating season I believe so decoys probably wont work in the fall becuase they arn't so horny to the point they'll come up to anything. so yeah I would look up fall strategies but the biggest part is knowing turkey are in the area. visit your hunting grounds before the season starts and sit and wait what you see. or set up a trail cam with some corn around it and see what shows up
