Camping in MA / NH / VT / ME this Weekend?

I'm trying to get out in the woods this weekend, badly. It's my first time off in a while and it came up quickly.
Of course, it's Labor Day weekend and everything is booked.
I'd very much like to have some space and be in the woods.
Are my best (only?) options dispersed camping in Green or White Mountain Nat'l Forests?
I'm fairly fond of Tripoli Road, but surely all those sites will be taken.
Does anyone know of any good areas that might fit the bill? Preferably within 50 miles of the MA border?

We are still in the normie zerg rush of parks so assume your go-to places will be full; and dispersed camping if you're able to scout a spot is the best bet.

Are there any resources where one might learn about semi-established dispersed sites? Like, I'm game to walk off trail a bit and not have a picnic table and amenities, but simply plopping down in the middle of the forest usually isn't quite ideal. Even simple clearings would be good to know about.
Anyone have any leads? Websites? Books? Forums?
I'm just curious.
I'm up for dispersed camping, but would rather have a bit more of a plan than just showing up and walking through the woods in the hopes that I find a suitable area to spend the night.
But, if that's what it's going to have to be, then so be it.

i'm now mostly trying to identify resources for semi-established dispersed camping sites
also, i'm fairly beyond your pic. i have dispersed camped before, but usually it has been with a "i hope i find a site" strategy. i'm trying to overcome that and have a better idea going in. but maybe the only way i can do that is to find my own sites and return to them.

Do you have any national forests or state parks on recreation.org? I had a lot of hate for the concept earlier in the summer, but it's growing on me hard. Just scan the map for stuff in driving distance and see what's open. They usually have pictures of the spots too, so it's not as much of a crapshoot.
As much as the normies have descended on the campgrounds, the ones that only have vault toilets are MUCH less crammed with people. If it weren't for RV spots, some of them would be largely empty even now.

I went to Wild River Wilderness a couple weeks ago and no one was there, but that’s closer to the border of NH and ME. The Carter-Moriah range isn’t all that great but I’ve heard the Baldfaces to the south are nicer, never been tho

going to show up at a trailhead in the whites, head into the woods, and hope i find a spot for the night.
i mean, surely i'll find something. even if it's not beautiful or flat or comfortable or whatever. even if i pull a fucking all nighter. aint like i'm gonna die out there. (knocks on wood.)
