There’s pretty big carp in my local ponds and I want to get one. I’m buying a wrist mounted reel, can I use it with pic related and/or a compound bow set at 40lbs to bag a carp?

I've had one for a long time. Pretty decent for how cheap they are.

What's your excuse, /out/? Jokes aside, I admire your dedication to your newfound angling, but slow down on asking questions about buying new shit all the time. Fishing can be an inexpensive or expensive hobby and you're rapidly trying to make it an expensive one. I want you to sit down tonight and ask yourself if you TRULY enjoy fishing. If you do, give it a while. Maybe wait until at least next season before you set out buying new gear.

In that it's a more entertaining story than "caught a carp the other day".
If the ponds are private or your state allows you to fish with a bow it's possible.
You'll likely need a stronger crossbow and bolts with something better than just field tips.
I know they make fishing tips for regular bowfishing, I figure someone has made bolts by now.

That size rules. I found a company that makes ice fishing catfish rods and I carry those when creek hopping for big catfish. I've reeled in 20+ pounders on them.
