>>219920>first aid kit to go with me on my hikes, and backpacking, and general /out/door fuckery.First meds:
Painkillers, whatever you prefer, a full blister.
Antacid for stomach issues.
Topical pain killer and topical antibiotic (topical is something you can rub onto the wound or hurt area).
You'll want alcohol for sterilizing and cleaning. I prefer alcogel, it's easier to work with outdoors (and people aren't tempted to drink it).
You'll most likely face sprains, so pack some elastic wrap to stabilize. You can also use that to make a compression bandage for bigger cuts.
A big bandana is useful, you can make an arm sling for broken arms or collar bones, or use it as a protective wrap around wounds, or to compress a wound. Ideally clean and kept in a ziplock. That goes for other medical kit you want clean and dry.
Basic bandaids and gauze.
Oh and keep some latex gloves, it's a quick way to be clean when treating wounds outdoors.
If you can find medical instruments;
- Scissors
- Clamps
- Scalpel
- Needle and thread (these shouldn't be your sewing kit, get the prepackaged kind meant for surgery)
A lot of that is overkill depending on your own skill of course. Get a wilderness medicine book and read it (or bring it). It helps to have an idea not only of basic first aid, but improvised solutions like fixating a broken bone using some proper sticks and bandage or strips of cloth.
Sorry for the poor formatting, I didn't have a copypaste ready.
