I carry a bahco laplander + a machete. Where I live most of the vegetation are made of bushes and small trees. If you want to go with the minimum, a medium knife is enough, but you should get something else to be good: a hatchet, machete or just a big knife

I don’t remember the last time I needed more than a ~3.5” blade outside of the kitchen. If you need a machete, get a damn machete, but for random cutting tasks and all that fun stuff, you rarely need a sharp edge much longer than a box cutter.

Small knives.
Preferably 90-130mm long.

Big blades (machetes, big knives, billhooks) are only useful if you're clearing bushes or something.

I don't have anything against feather sticks, but I also have never needed to make one, because 1) I carry tinder and 2) I collect small twigs and shit to start a fire and I don't need much to get a fire going. If I was making a firestick, I imagine a lot has conspired against me and I'm trying to scrape dry wood out of the inside of a big stick.

Big knives are a meme. Pic related is the only big knife I use, and then mostly because it's part of my living history kit. I have a 3 inch knife for 90% of the time I need to use a knife.

Larger knives are for butchering big game, cooking, splitting and working some wood, or other specialized tasks. A camp knife, leuku, or similar is indispensable for about 25% of tasks when you get into longer term camping or supporting a larger group. It's also a symbol of office because of that.

95% of camp tasks are handled by my 3.5 inch pocket folder, but I bring a 6 inch filet knife for the Feesh, and I sometimes bring a 8 inch "bushcraft knife" for doing things like digging cat holes or shredding mouldering logs digging for grubs for bait or making kindling.
