Thinking of going to Park City, anyone ever been there?

Also looking to get my first pair of skis this year. I'm a solid intermediate that just started on single black runs at the end of last season. Not so sure what to look for in a ski quite yet, but found that I had problems with wobble at high speed with the rental pair of Heads I used

Any ski shops one could recommend in the area that would let me demo before I buy? I find myself going faster than others and making broad skidding turns, if it'd help point me toward the right set of skis

Yes, easily 2x as fast compared to snow shoes and less energy expended per mile IMO. Sliding instead of stomping and getting help form any decline on the approach makes a big difference. Not to mention getting back is downhill and you’re wearing skis so it’s a one way trip.

how hard are uphills with skis? I've only ever done normalfag downhill skiing so i've never had to worry about going uphill

I’ve been to park city several times, IMO it’s the best in the area by far but still pales in comparison to the usual i70 corridor skiing. you’re honestly better off headed to breck, vail, etc, same pass but better terrain, people, and more to do after skiing.
If you’re still making skid turns then the ski doesn’t really matter. Learn to carve first, then you’ll appreciate some of the nicer skis.

Depends. It’s harder than walking and you’re usually carrying some gear, plus it’s usually quite a long slog up steep terrain (cause it’s not particularly worth it to hit shallow angle stuff) so it can be brutal if there is powder since you’ll have to push through that uphill the whole way. Often there is a skin track if you’re in a popular place which negates trail breaking. Spring skiing can be nice since the snow is compact and frozen in the morning and you can fly up it, and get sweet sweet corn snow on the way down once it warms up.

As someone who has been downhill skiing my whole life I can tell you uphill is quiet dreadfull at the start. The technique looks like walking but it's not so it takes at least 5 days to get a proper hang of it. Also, it's mainly cardio, something downhill skiers usually lack. You should aim to get at least 20 days of uphill skiing your first season so you start feeling comfy.
