First time using this forum. I'm looking at getting a new knife for camping/hiking/thatsortofshit.

My current knife is a Karesuando Wolf but, even though it's gorgeous, I'd love to have a broader tang to make it feel sturdier.

I've got my eye on the Helle Temagami but I'm not 100% sure yet.

Minimum 3/4 tang and wood scales would be the best choice.

This is the leather handled finn....Leather handle and stainless steel blade as opposed to the black one.... about half the price ($43.00)

I personally prefer the black cro-van steel in the previous picture ... I hate having shiny blades on a beater knife...only way I'd go stainless steel is if it was duracoated . But it's gonna be your knife and your preferences when making purchasing decision

Because that tells me you'll mostly be using it for cutting, slicing, defensive purposes in which case serrations are better. Way easier to cut through any type of rope / paracord / twine with a serration...plus the serration retains its edge longer.

If you're going to be using it for chopping however, never use a serrated blade unless you know the wood has no knots. Certain types of denser woods or if you chop into wood that has a knot could dent your serrations.

You might like Enzo knives. Their trapper is very similar to the Temagami, but full tang. Offered in a bunch of steels and handle materials. Not too expensive. You can even buy them as a kit. You'll have a few more options, but you'd need to finish the handle yourself.

Pic related has s30v steel and amboyna burl handles. Looks absolutely gorgeous if you ask me.

Many people do it. A lot of people like myself don't like shiny blades. Scratches and dinks look worse on them, fingerprints, gives away position in defensive situations, etc.

Agreed. My Wolf looks like it's been through the woods a few times and has been clearly sharpened. No real point in polishing a blade when it already cuts like new. Sure, you get slightly better edge retention but it's not worth the effort really.
