>>2209933whenever i look into it i get depressed because the location and price of land never lines up quite how i'd like, but it's entirely possible i'm retarded
as for the cabin and shed, lumber prices have changed, but i feel like i could have built both for maybe $6-8k? online information always suggests shit like "find auctions in your area after homes are built" so it would hinge entirely on that being successful, i guess
and since i'm larping, i will tell you that i've read several books on the subject of building structures and have strong trigonometry knowledge. my step-father was a contractor, so i have experience with: drywall, painting, minimal framing (like adding a partition or closet to a room that doesn't have one), cabinet building, tile, installation of various things like toilets, sinks, hot water heaters, dishwashers, gutters, shower stalls, trim work, laminate flooring, laminate hardwood, re-doing plumbing under sinks, and a bunch of other stuff. i've made some of my own furniture in the past like saw horses, slat beds, side tables, bookshelves, and that's about it.
i can not do: anything electrical although i am knowledgeable about electric engineering. nothing fancy. arduino projects and soldering some kits together. i want to do an arcade cabinet. i also build my own PCs and would never consider otherwise.
i can't do any roof work because i'm terrified of heights, although i don't mind being a few steps up a ladder to install a light fixture or clean/repair gutters. i'd try to build the cabin in such a way that i could avoid having to climb too high. if i can screw in some metal roofing in a few different accessible places, i'm golden.
thanks for reading my blog post. :)
