Can someone with a lot of knowledge please help me decide on a backpack opinions? I need a rucksack with 50 - 60 litres, water resistant, and comes in earth like colours.

The most important thing about the backpack is the accessibility, at least 3 big pockets. Two on both sides, one on top. Then another zipper to access the contents of it from bottom, side, whatever.
Then the second good thing is thick good waist belt and none sliding chest belt. So it does not get loosen on its own.
The whole weight is carried by the waist belt.
The rest shoulders and the chest belt fixate the backpack.
You can waterproof it yourself with diluted silicon with some mineral spirits, some patience and a brush. Not sure how it will go with the coloring it yourself. I do not know if there is a can paint for fabric.

Are you kayaking with the bags or are they for a regular backpack ?

They are almost always smaller than advertised. Under 70-80 I doubt anyone who isn’t extremely skilled will properly be equipped for anything more than 3 weeks, if he is traveling alone. Maybe in the summer. If it’s for being on a river and there isn’t more than 2-3km of portaging I agree with >>2211653.

I just bought a teton sports scout 3400 off amazon. I thought it was chinesium crap at first but it gets excellent reviews, apparently its comfy, and very water resistant, also comes with built in rainfly if the weather gets really bad

I think most people will only be out for a week max, usually only a couple days. I find a 50-60L perfect for that
