Caught one common nase and two prussian carps the other day at a reservoir near my city. Maggots for bait and some bread mixed with maggots on a spring feeder. Nothing exceptional but the weather was good, there were no people at the reservoir and the sunset was amazing.

Oof, and I thought it was bad where I live. Ontario has regulations spread across over 16 different zones, which a lot of rivers overlap through. On top of that there are golf courses and privately owned land that blocks a ton of access off.

I rarely catch mackerel at midday unless they are around in large numbers and will focus on sunrise and sunsets as the best time to try, especially when this is matched to the timing of high tide

I caught a snook a while back. Just under slot, I wasn't going to keep it if it had been slot. Don't even have a stamp for snook. I looked at the fish and didn't know why I caught it. I haven't had an interest in going fishing sense, I grow veggies now. idk what happened, but I like seeing everybody else's posts and hearing from my buddies about what they're catching, but I just lost something inside me. It's not about the boat, it depends where they're fishing. If they're fishing the nados that's within 12 miles of Mexico so it's considered being "in" Mexico. That's why they can't just decide to go to the islands for rockfish if the offshore bite shuts off, there's other additional paperwork as well I believe.

What are you fishing for? Freshwater or saltwater? A lot of that extra cost has to do with making the reel more resilient in saltwater. Personally, my heavy calico swimbait reel is a daiwa HD 300.

Quick research on lexa vs tranx is saying the tranx has smoother brass gears while the lexa has tougher stainless steel gears. I think either one in a 300 would be great for what you're using, though I have to admit there's no pike where I'm from.

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent nymphing line setup for a beginner? The river is very low. I have never kayak on a river before. I have never kayak at night. And yet Friday evening I'm gonna kayak about 300 yards up the river, set up shop on a sandbar, and catfish all night. Might try to get some adderall tomorrow so I can stay up all night.

I'll be driving myself to and from the landing, so I will at most bring like 3 beers. I'm am alcohol tho so that won't be fun. But in any event, it'll be cool to chain smoke and wait on a catfish to fuck up. All I've ever caught catfishwise is little bullhead as bycatch while fishing for bluegill etc.

Whatever minnows they sell at your local bait store, hooked thru the lips, a foot below a cork.
Do NOT release your excess minnows into any body of water. I know it seems wasteful and cruel, but just dum the unused ones in the grass or something. Again, do NOT release baitfish into any body of water in which they were not caught.

I use spinning reels for lighter stuff and lures that require rod work, like poppers and stickbaits, but baitcasters just feel better for anything 3/4oz and up that just need a steady retrieve. When you get decent at it your casting accuracy is a lot better.

Well, I live on an island so mostly inshore salt, but I'll likely use it for fresh water too on occasion, specifically in the St Lawrence as I go there every summer.

You need to match the rod to the reel, and to the weight of the rig you're pitching.
You can get some kind of cast with a spinning reel hoseclamped to a broomstick, but a bad match with a baitcast will get you backlash.

Also, some baitcast reels are just crappy. Until I found ones I liked I thought they were all junk, better suited as boat rods.

caught 8 steelhead salmon babies all about 10inch size under a bridge on puget sound as the tide was going out

I'm going fishing tomorrow at Folsom lake in California in an area I've been told is good for catfish. I've been there before, there are clearly signs of fish, but I have not tried to fish it much and when I have, I wasn't successful.

I used to think this too but found out that some fisheries historically and currently are based around snagging the fish. For salmon and steelhead you can obviously hook them in the mouth when fishing for them during the appropriate time so its a little different. But for other fish that you can basically only catch via snagging makes we wonder how I really feel about it.

Is 10lb fluoro enough for saltwater targeting smaller species like flounder or striper or bluefish?? (Mostly off docks and sometimes off the beach in inlets and canals on the Jersey shore) I have heard conflicting answers from google so I'll ask my anon friends.

I am a very drag conscious person, but even then I'm not sure that 10 lb is enough if I catch a really big striper or something

Bluefish and flounder and others have very sharp teeth. Personally, I tend to use more like 20lb flouro leader, especially moreso when near structure like docks or pilings. It's not gonna hurt to try though, just bring a spool of heavier leader with ya in case you start losing fish

like anon said, blues and fluke have sharp teeth. Striped bass also have abrasive sandpapery jaws, I would advise at least a 20lb flouro/mono leader. Another thing to consider it the lure weights you're casting, if you're casting anything over about 3/4 oz on 10lb flouro it's gonna dig into your fingers and you might want to use some athletic tape on your casting finger to protect it. I'd use 20lb braid and a 24" leader of 20lb mono, make sure you have wire leaders for when the blues show up. Lost my favorite pencil popper because I didn't bring any leaders, decided to wing it on 30lb flouro and got bit off after about 6 fish.

Anon I have no idea what you're asking here. Please post a diagram or picture of what you mean. Some general information that might help Blood knots have a low profile, are very strong, and easy to tie. This makes blood knots deal for joining sections of a tapered leader or adding tippet. Just practice and make sure to wet your knots with water or saliva. The video you showed is for joining fly line to the butt section of a fly leader. Most modern fly lines have a welded loop which allows you to use a loop to loop connection rater than whats shown in the video. If there is no loop or the loop is broken, use a nail knot. The nail knot is stronger, lower profile and casts much better. Check out Mad River Outfitters on youtube, they have a guide for everything fly fishing related.

I started doing something I learned on a JDM shore jigging channel. On setups where you use heavier lures on relatively light line I use an fg knot to tie about 10' of heavier braid in between the leader and main line so that it's easier on you finger. So for example on my heavier shore jig setup where I cast 1.5 to 3oz jigs I have 30lb braid main line, 10' of 65lb braid and a 60lb fluoro leader with the knot outside the first guide. I used to use athletic tape, but it always either fell off from being too loose or I had to wrap it tighter and cut off the circulation.

Powerbait soft baits lasts a very long time. I have left a bait on the hook for a week or two and then try it out next fishing session and it still catches. They also have very good grip on the hook, when I am fishing wax worms or real eggs pretty much have to re-bait after every bite.

People usually get neoprene ones for hunting because they are out pre dawn when its still cold as hell out. For fishing neoprene waders are typically too hot to wear with the exception of very cold water fisheries. Cheap PVC/Nylon waders are good for a wide range of temps for fishing, might not have good enough puncture resistance for hunting.

Bowfin aka mudfish are a tremendous fight but they will absolutely wreck your lures. I try to kill all of them I catch because they really do a number on panfish populations. Almost everyone who says they're not worth eating hasn't ever actually eaten one. The people I know that have eaten them say they're fine.

I have an overpass that divides the puget sound from a tidal marsh area and when the tide goes out there are obviously huge what I think are steelhead feeding on the little fish that come out of the marsh
the water is only maybe 10 feet deep and the rocks in the area are huge with barnacles and muscles and small kelp
I think I need something silver that swims close to the surface maybe 4.5-5 inches

Those do exist in Portugal but in 8 years fishing in this river, I've never seen anything like this. Although I stopped fishing in this exact river for a 2year period. Could they literally expand that fast?

My best northern ever was on a Rapala SuperShadRap in largemouth bass pattern and my best muskie ever was on a size 14 Husky Jerk in Northern Pike pattern. The Musky was 56 inches and the northern was 41.

Everything really, we're going to gonzaga bay so I guess main target is cabrilla and pargo, but if we see birds I'll definitely motor over there for sierra, yellowtail and dorado. Then of course we can always fall back on triggers. My buddy kind of wants to try targetting the big grouper, but I think that might not be a good idea on kayaks, lol.

Any central fl bros got a good inshore spot on the east coast? I usually hit mosquito lagoon or dunlawton bridge launch on the indian river. Mosquito lagoon a little over-rated imo. Never found the bite to be that good and a ton of cats.

I never catch on chatter baits. I trespass all the time, just leave when I'm asked. Never had any issue beyond people telling me to leave. I'm not like, fishing private ponds or something though, but golf courses, streams through farm land, lake shores around people's docks etc.

On the river we saw folks catch some nice lake run brookies. Also some nice LL salmon. My buddy landed a 18 inch salmon. They were only taking tiny nymphs like size 18 and smaller.

Prussian/crucian carp. Very common in eastern Europe. They are usually caught on boiled wheat/barley. Went for tench today but got four of those. Common carp are caught exclusively on corn, boilies, bread etc., though I've heard of some getting hooked on maggots.
