Rei half domes are a great starter tent. They are generally familiar to folks and the extra room is nice. Even if you move on to other shelters, I know plenty of folks that have their half dome and similar tents many years later for car camping, loaners etc. For sure in the greater scheme of things they are rather heavy for a single person backpack shelter.

Do you guys feel like you're not /out/ when /in/ a tent? I also hate not being able to check my surroundings when innawoods. That said, they do look cozy for mountain camping though. At least from what I've seen.

I get good sleep looking at the stars and the canopy anon, I don't fear anything out there it's just a weird autistic thought of feeling like I'm trapped and getting full-on children-of-bodom'd or something. Yea i got a cheap amazon one for the same price. Ive been saving up some cash im looking for a good tent that has the option to put a stove in for the winter. Till then i dont really see a reason to spend a bunch of money on a short term tent

You can probably look at an old milsurp command or mess tent. Would have about 20 square metres inside. Throw down some tarps and you're golden, figuratively speaking.
I know /pol/ would probably like milsurp anyway, because it's cheap, old, durable and good for LARP.

I was just having a sleep in it a few night ago.
The stakes it comes with are a bit heavy and the loops are horizontal- so you need to run some cordage through them and then loop around your stakes. You don't put the stakes through the loops. Also, you are going to want to extend the upper side flap, see pic, so you get a pentagon shaped tent instead of a triangle. A half-foot up makes a big amount of difference in room when you're sleeping.
You'll figure out the side vent flaps, and there is a little one on the top of the wall opposite the entrance.

Understood. Since you're here I may as well ask some more questions about the f2:
-Do you use a groundsheet for it?
-How can ground be that you set it up on?
-Is anything required for setting up the tent outside of cordage and potentially a groundsheet?
-How bugproof has the tent been for you? I'm aware that there may be a slight gap in the flyscreen.

The floor is rubbery so I have no concern about waterproof but I do use a tarp for a groundsheet just for wear protection.
How can ground be?
It comes with two poles that you use on both ends to keep it up, then you use stakes and string to keep it all taught
It's very good against bugs. The small gap is too small to worry about anything but you could always bring a little electrical tape

and if you can, replace the stakes down the line with something lighter
or not, you might think they're okay
I only say because it's like half the weight of the whole bag is the stakes

REI hubba. Pretty light, completely waterproof. Only downside is I wish I had bought more earthy tones in color instead of the red/white. At the time of purchase figured I'd want it to stand out so as not to lose it but that's an amateur mindset. I want to be completely hidden now.
