They ought to have safety stuff like GPS, lighter, knife, water filter, extra food, batteries, spare fuel, first aid etc. in their truck. I'm assuming that wherever your friend will take you will be nearby so safety isn't a big concern, but yeah if you don't feel safe with this person don't go. On your end, I'd definitely bring some food you like, something to keep you warm, a couple fresh pairs of socks and underwear, soap, something non-electronic that can keep you entertained, decent hiking shoes, bug repellent, a bottle of whisky, and a flashlight. In general you want to bring stuff that will help you relax when you get uncomfortable. Part of camping is being uncomfortable, so embrace that, but the best parts of camping are where you are by the fire late at night, tired from hiking around all day, cooking some food and drinking a glass of whisky.
