17 year old hawaiifag here, i do both 6 man outrigger canoeing and 1 man ocean kayaking

Both have their benefits, outrigger less likely to hui, ocean kayak is greatt for surfing/rivers

Not saying you can't fish from kayaks, but I'd still prefer a canoe. Also better for camping trips on inland lakes with lots of portages. I'm a kayaker (and I don't fish anymore), but canoes do have advantages for some things.

I'm a kayak person myself. Better control in rougher conditions (I like ocean and whitewater). A Canoe would undoubtedly be better in a camping or survival situation because of the greater storage space, but for entertainment, kayak all the way.

I'm more experienced with a canoe, because when I was a Scout we always took an annual trip on a river through the Pine Barrens. Usually the adults got first dibs on kayaks, so I would always be in a canoe, and when I was strong enough I just took my own.

I think I actually prefer it that way, except the wind makes you its plaything when you're in the middle of a lake.

Fishing from a kayak is where it's at. I've got 2 rod holders for trolling and can do it without coordinating with another person. Less effort for paddling. Can also hit shallower rivers. The only reason to use a canoe is with kids or to bring tons of gear.

Texas Water Safari racer here. I like all boats that can be paddled.

I have a wave sport z, an older perception, and a really old school prijon for whitewater.

For flatwater or long river trips I have a alumacraft ultralight or a wehnona kevlar.

I also have two sit on tops for general fucking around and fishing.

Comparing boats is more done on length as the big difference between the two are where your feet go. Longer boats are like cadillacs and sit and shit (park and play) whitewater boats are like rice rocket motorcycles.

I've done both, but I prefer kayaking. If I'm going with a group of people and we're camping somewhere, then I prefer a canoe. It's like the suburban of the two, where-as the kayak is the jeep. A canoe can carry a shitload more gear, which is great for extended stays, but it can't handle certain waterways. The kayak can go just about everywhere, and holds enough gear for one person, but if you're planning an extended stay you'll be living off the land.

Oh yeah, the kayak I have is an older wilderness systems the wave. It sits low in the water, gets wet as shit, and is practically unsteerable with the rudder up... But it's stable as fuck, I can stand up, sit on the edge, climb back in from the water, whatever.
