We usually get ropes (for rappels or rescues), lights, water, climbing shoes, knives, screwdrivers/pliers/etc. (for REALLY urban shit)

I once explored the tunnels system underneath Ohio State University. It's pretty cool being down there, but nothing of interest is down there

I've got an abandened cold war missile base near my house ive bene exploring for years. We've mapped the entire exterior but now my friends and i currently working on figuring out a way in to the underground.

Well, this one was on private property, and the entrance to one of the areas was slightly above ground. It was easy to get in.

As for going inside of them, just bring flashlights, respirators (asbestos and whatnot), boots, and just be careful.

As for cops, i think it is technically illegal, however, that's why you just go in unseen.

Well Nike silos are really just short trenches in the ground to my knowledge. But of the 3 locations I know off hand, 1 is in the local (small) airport. This one I know is owned by the police/firedpt/city. The second is like 300' from city hall. The third actually looks promising due to some weird buildings next to it, but is right on a highway.

I wouldn't advise going alone, but that said, I've done a bit of careful exploring when I discover a place and I'm by myself. At the very least bring a phone and tell someone where you're going and when you ecpect to be back.

Some guy died exploring the power plant near me when he fell into a coal bin, and another guy I know fell part way through a floor - so some places can be pretty dangerous.

For NIKE bases, you probably won't get to go into the launcher sites since most (at least from my experience in and around Boston and Providence) are flooded out, because they're underground and require pumps to not get flooded.

There are usually buildings around there that are interesting to check out though.

From what I've read though, hobos generally aren't much of a worry
Just apologize for intruding and offer to leave, be polite and respectful etc.
I've heard stories of cool hobos who loved the chance to talk to talk to someone who doesn't try to pretend they exist
They can give you good leads to new places, too
Apparently it can be a good idea to carry a pack of cigarettes around to give out, even if you don't smoke

Of course, the extent of my experience with urbexing is cursing the shitty town I live in for having nothing interesting, so this is all second or third hand.

well it could easily kill you but generally its pretty safe depending on what you doing and how cautious you are. as for locations google maps is good for drains just zoom in and look at lake river banks for buildings and shit you can just go drive around and look for broken windows or sealed up places or again just do some googling.

but for people who dont want to just do what everyone else has done, it takes a long time planning usually, depends what your doing. sometimes you need to know security patrol times etc and alot of it is just walk in and hope for the best.
ive never had a serious injury, but i know a few people who have died, but footballlers die too!

lol we almost got caught a few days ago we were sneaking into a factory that they are gutting but since there's a fuckload of expensive ass machines they have security patrols. ive been there before but they must have really ramped it up because they are now patrolling every half hour. and they turned off the lights (so they can see the flashlights) we were at the door and a security truck rounds the corner literally 200 feet from us and all three of us rush inside and sprint to the door on the end closest to the corner he came around so we'd be behind him. and after a few seconds we looked out the door and he was parked at the end of the building facing us with his lights off so we waited him out for a few mins and he eventually started his truck and drove back down the road slow as fuck so we ran past him again to the door we came in and when he founded the corner we ran to the fence hopped it and watched for a while and after about 20 mins exactly half an hour since he drove by the first time he came back around the corner.

I live in the 818 so we're really close, This is actually a nike base but its not really blocked off you simply need ot find the hole in the fence. Take mulholland highway to stunt road than take that all the way up and hike up the trail, passed the "do not enter government property" sign. It's kind of a giant missile bay so its hard to miss.

Theres an abandoned Nike site in the mountains a town over from me in ct and the entrance was blocked by boulders. So I mined the boulders away and left enough space to slide into a stair case to get to the rooms and hallways. It's mainly flooded so I need to buy some waders to explore the rest.

That reminds me, there's an airstrip about 2 miles out inna woods. Looking at it from google maps tells me there's a fairly new building built just off to the side of it and there's no road leading to the place. Think it's worth the trip?

I usually explore with one other buddy. The key is being quick. In most cases I'm more worried about running into a security guard then a gang. I've encountered one homeless person and a few harmless teen vandals before. But being nearly arrested twice was far more scary.

Was in las vegas last month. I couldn't help but notice the massive amount of abandoned construction sites littering the area around my hotel (Riviera).
The police are probably too busy arresting people who try to cross the street than go after urbex'rs

I particularly like one series, EVERYMANhybrid, because of the UE that goes on in some episodes, including a visit to Centralia, Pennsylvania. Pic definitely related.

Centralia, if you don't know, was a mining town. However, a fire broke out underground in the 60's or 70's and burns to this day. The town is almost completely abandoned, and the ground has massive cracks that have opened up due to the raging fire below.

They've also visited a school that caught fire years ago.

This little place here hasn't had any human in it for years. I had to blaze my own trail to get to it and all the graffiti in the area was faded as all hell.

I figure will a tarp, some rope and a few slabs of wood, I could make my own little bunker back here.

ive been in drains in a huge metropolitian city i live in,, abandoned ice caves from old brewerys, a few active sites and a few other abandonned commercial sites.

I have been doing it all my life, im 37 now, I know all the spots in my area, I found a huge group, at least 50 people or more when I met a girl who was with them, but she dumped me and got a restraining order on me and got me dropped from theor forum because she has admin, so I am back to gong alone in the 612

They're stone, actually. This place was a lumber mill that burned down sometime in the early 1950's or something. There are multiple sections like these two side by side. It's hard to walk around inside though, even had to crawl around on the ground to get through the walls to get to some places.

Well it's because our goverment tries to care of them and provide them with free education, health care, etc. etc. but they reject all of it and try to fuck everything up, i wouldn't mind if they stayed outside of cities or whatever, but they move around in packs and just try to stir trouble.

There really isn't, but lately there's been somewhat of a boom of nationalist fucktards that seemingly can't forget they war (even though most of them are aged 16 or so and weren't even born while it was raging).

I don't know about Griffith Park, man, but I'm a 909ner too. I live near a town called Redlands, and they have an abandoned mall that's just been sitting there for three years. They're now in the process of accepting bids for the mall, and I want to explore it before it gets demolished or refurbished.

Where do you live exactly? In Brasov, where I go in my vacation every year, there are lots of old abandoned factories, at least in the outskirts.
