thinking about thru hiking the AT if i get fired from my job soon. is it more a matter of physicality or backpacking skill? any tips or often-overlooked pack items? any resources or advice on how to prepare would be great.

i didn't pick the filename, and apu is a fren. as for your question, as a wagie you don't have the chance to take 6 months to go hiking across the country. if you get fired, you've got the time to do something different.

yee i'm an eagle scout (it's not that gay), and i've been backpacking ever since. i'm mid 20s though so its not like i've got decades of experience though. longest trip i've done was a week.
