TL;DR what's a good 2-3L hydration reservoir?

I am wanting to get a 2-3L hydration reservoir, and had a few questions:

1. With Camelbak Crux, is the mil spec just a meme or is it worth paying the extra shekels?

2. Back when I used to do mountain biking (~15yrs ago) Camelbak was the go to brand. Is this still the case? I see that lots of people recommend Platypus as they don't make the watery have a "plastic" smell

As for mil-spec; it's basically just covering the tube and bit for sun protection/insulation. Sleeves aren't hard to get for bladders aftermarket, but maybe getting one with it and not having dirt get stuck in the bit often is worth the five shekels
Speaking of shekels; I have a Source bladder, but I don't like how they close the top with a fold and friction. It seems to always leak if the pack is laid down or tilted sideways. The way the tube detaches at both ends is nice, tho. Pic related

It does make for an easier time cleaning and drying
so there is atleast a benefit to the top flap, but I wish it was tighter or something

I have the 2L Camelbak on the left and I took it on a 12 mile hike a few weeks ago. Mine never leaked, and the rubbery/plastic taste doesn't really bother me. Overall I think it's okay, but it's not great IMO. If I knew about Platypus before I bought Camelbak I would have gone with the former instead.

I use source as well. Had no problem with the folding bit leaking, it's been fine. This is far better than the camelbak caps getting fucking stuck closed all the time and leaking unless you get it on perfectly, although fair play camelbak your customer support is good. I've gotten spare parts shipped free from them with no receipt or anything.

I personally use the CamelBak milsurp 3l antidote reservoir, I also have the filter that it can be used with. So far it's been great, seems quite durable, although I don't quite like the short twist cap style it has. I got them both off sportsman's guide for like 50 total I think? Good deal for a full water setup.
