Hunting season edition
Feel free to post tobaccos (no weed allowed), pipes, collections, pics of favorite combos for going /out/, pics of what you're doing with your pipe and any questions you might have.
Want to get into smoking pipes without spending too much cash?
Get a Missouri Meerschaum Legend corncob pipe and a pouch of either Captain Black or Half and Half tobacco, available at most drugstores.
What you'll need: pipe, tobacco, lighter or matches, pipe cleaners, and either a regular old nail or a pipe tool (combination tamper, scoop, and small pick).
All of these together should run you less than $25.
Having trouble keeping your pipe lit? Fill it with less tobacco and smoke it slower than you think you need to, lightly tamping as needed when the smoke starts thinning out.
If you're still having trouble, try filling your pipe this way:

replying to the previous thread, yes i have made my own pipe, made my own corncob from some corn I grew in my garden and dried, picked it hollow with a stick or something and drilled a hole in the side with a basic drill. the stem was the hard part: used a wood window dowell, tried to burn through it with a piece of wire I heated until glowing, ultimately resorted to using a very long drill bit. also made a few wood pipes after that similar to what you posted but none were very good

Pic of me smoking a pipe during a fishing trip this past weekend Since it's hunting season edition: I'm getting my hiring and firearms licenses in a couple weeks Isn't it kind of dumb to smoke a pipe while actively hunting or is that just for big game like deer and elk
Anonymous
>>2221242 they're a meme unless they're made of clay. the claim that they cool the smoke is repeated by newbies who don't understand physics, to other newbies who don't understand physics.
in clay (or meerschaum in the case of saxaphone pipes) they do help dry the smoke as the clay and meerschaum (which is actually a type of clay) are extremely porous and suck up moisture like a sponge. but vulcanite and lucite are not porous, will not suck up moisture from the smoke, and are thermal insulators to boot.
they're also clumsy as fuck. they're ok for when you're reading a book and can rest the bowl on your chair or table but that's about it. stanwell makes a churchwarden that comes with both long and short stems, invariably they get smoked once or twice with the long stem before getting a permanent switch to the short stem.

The local pipe shop has a basket of churchwarden pipes with the name Rigoletto stamped on them, presumably ones that didn't pass visual inspection as a few of them have minor scuffs and the like. All these spics selling nicotiana rustica are just ripping off dumb western hippies, not one can show you pics of their crops, only regular tobacco field stock photos. It looks like 100 percent of those rustica rope tobaccos / mapacho logs you see coming from south america are just fucking n. Tabacum labeled as rustica Leaf only is the only supplier of rustica and their leaf is weak due to being suncured. Mac baren rustica is sun cured, steamed, and blended to hell with weak light tabcum varietals to the point its only like 2.5 % nicotine, and who knows how many of the other good alkaloids you lose. i just want to enjoy some sacred tobacco and contact the nicotine entitities
Anonymous
>>2226131 It’s pretty potent stuff anon. I wouldn’t recommend it for casually tripping but if you’re truly interested in N. rustica you can easily grow it. Most Native American elders in tribal centers would be willing to help you if you’re nice and give you free seeds, but don’t ask for tobacco, or they’ll just give you a pinch of Gambler’s. They have all of the gurgling and heat issues of a metal pipe, with all of the cleaning issues of a briar. The mouthpiece not being removable on mine didn’t help either.
If you’re in a place with cold, wet winters like the PNW or northern England, the super humid weather can warp a wooden pipe. A Falcon won’t warp, that’s what makes it great. If you don’t have those problems, it’s a solution without a problem at that point.

Even if you suck at it, it will be able to take it. They’re made of wood, not glass.
I’ve got pipes that are over 100 years old and are still fine. Just keep them fairly clean and don’t let the cake build up too much, and they’ll stay good for a LONG time.

>>2226380 I dunno what else you want me to do man. It’s just how I was taught.
>>2226419 Thanks man. Good tip with tobacco plants is to pinch off the flowers as soon as they come, preferably before they even bloom. They’ll attract moths which pollinate them and they’ll lay their eggs on them too. Manduca sexta hornworms can devastate tobacco but are also one of their main pollinators.
After tobacco is pollinated they’ll create about 20-30 seed pods with around 300 seeds in each one. Though N. rustica isn’t normally grown for its yields or flavor so your chances of a plant are around 12-20% germination rate. After seed pods are made they will die since tobacco is not a perennial plant, and depends on its seeds to create the next generation.
>picrel.jpg >>2226444 Checked
Anonymous
>>2226506 You were taught primitive bullshit. However, you're also doing damn fine work keeping tobacco cultivation alive. Did you get your rustica seeds online, or does it grow naturally where you live? I'm thinking of growing a plant or two in addition to my usual Virginia/burley/Havana, and using it as a filler to boost nicotine content. I've heard it doesn't taste like much, flavor-wise?
Anonymous
>>2226531 It tastes like ass, I wouldn’t blend it because it’ll overpower whatever you’ve got. Plus decent tobaccos that (you) would be accustomed to are actually sun and fire or flue cured from what I learned, so it imparts a different flavor profile altogether. It mostly comes down to soil and how you cure it. I just do it the way my grandfather taught me.

Many tribes seem to have made many landrace strains of nicotiana rustica and other species. Besides Choctaw perique plants, and alaskan quadrivalis strains, it seems like every tribe made their own special breed of nicotiana rustica suited to their taste and enviroment.

It’s not caked yet properly though and will appreciate hearty smokes the first few times. Make sure to use your finger to rub the ash into the bowl after you dump out the large clumps to help cake it and carbonize it further the next time you smoke. This will insulate your bowl and help keep more heat in your smoke so you don’t have to relight it more often. Best way to light is with a butane lighter, though purists tend to prefer matches that have burnt for at least a second to loss the phosphorous taste, and further still people who will swear by cedar spliffs. It really comes down to how fancy do you fancy your smoke. Cheap tobacco was how I started so I could know what flavor profiles I like. There’s also some good suggestions in this thread so far, and most tins are only $10-15 online.

>>2227983 You should try an aromatic (1Q and BCA mixed together is my favorite so far), a VaPer (Orlik Golden Sliced), and an English (Nightcap), just to introduce yourself to the most common categories. And get a corncob first, they're cheap and good to learn on until you get a briar.

I was at a street fair and a guy was selling herbal blends that he was smoking out of a corncob. I think he mentioned it had mullein, skullcap, lavender, and some kind of mint in it. Has anyone ever tried blends like these? Is it just a hippie meme that'll wreck a pipe?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>2228068 They are mostly a meme - at least the ones that people sell for ridiculous prices these days. A lot of them also seem to just throw a shitload of smokeable plants together into a nightmare of competing flavor and texture (though the example you gave isn't a particularly bad offender there).
Without psychoactives or nicotine there isn't really much point in these for a lot of people, except perhaps as a cessation aid.
That said, there is enjoyment to be had from herbal blends if you just plain like the taste/smell - or even for mixing with tobacco as is sometimes done. With a little research, it's easy to make your own for a lot cheaper than the premade shit.
If you're going to try it, definitely get a dedicated cob for the experiment though.

> “There is another astonishing thing about Hobbits of old that must be mentioned, an astonishing habit: >they imbibed or inhaled, through pipes of clay or wood, the smoke of the burning leaves of a herb, which they called pipe-weed or leaf, a variety probably of Nicotiana. >A great deal of mystery surrounds the origin of this particular custom, or ‘art’ as the Hobbits preferred to call it.” -Lord of the Rings, Prologue, part 2: “Concerning Pipe Weed”
Nicotiana=tobacco, or something closely related to it. Which makes sense, since Tolkien was an avid pipe smoker.
TLDR: “pipe weed” is, canonically, tobacco, you’re just another stupid fucking stoner whose whole life revolves around marijuana, and life goes on without you, just as we all suspected.

Some snuffs will clog you up easier than others. If we're talking schmalzers/mentholated, some folks just generally have a tough time with those clogging the airways. If we're talking an SP or a scotch snuff, you're sniffing waaaaaaay too hard then. Act like you're smelling flowers, only ever so lightly. Coarser snuffs are more forgiving than fine. Just experiment and see what makes your nose less clogged/less throat drip. Hope that helps! What are you sniffing, by the way?

>>2231409 >is this beyond your comprehension Yes, I don't understand Rolexes either. In some big ticket items (guns and computers for example) a high end product can cost 10x the price of a low end product and that cost can actually be somewhat justified by the improved quality and performance. The computer is faster, the gun is more ergonomic and accurate, etc. You do still pay for desirable brands, but the real world benefits are more significant--you hit the point of diminishing returns later. For example, a Sig Sauer pistol is better than a Hipoint pistol, in a much more real way than a Rolex is better than a watch from Walmart, or--I believe--than a Dunhill is better than a MM.

If there is a significant difference, even if it's small, then more power to you. Just like people that pay thousands for wine from a certain region and vintage, not really my thing but I understand.
If they're just paying all that money for a status symbol then I get to feel good about myself when I make fun of them while smoking my corncob.

More like a generational keepsake of value than a consumer good pike a rolex. That is because it harkens back to fine swords that were passed down for generations of our ancestors.

I found it very frustrating as well, so I switched to stuff like VaPer and English blends and it was like night and day. I enjoy aromatics now years later but I'm still a little impatient with them. They have to be packed just right and smoked very gently, so its more of a relax by the fire thing and not really a mindlessly puff while I'm fishing kinda thing

It's not rocket science, you take an aromatic and mix it with a non-aromatic then put it in your pipe. Non-aromatic provides the flavor that you taste, aromatic enhances it plus adding that room note which I have to admit is a big part of why I got into pipe smoking to begin with. Even just try mixing your Captain Black with some half and half which is just a couple bucks at most smoke shops, you'll be impressed with the difference.

isnt smoking a pipe bad for you? Why would I ever do that? I promised my parents id never smoke. they were crying.
Anonymous

Yes, smoking can be bad for you, but you don't inhale a pipe, and most people don't smoke a pipe (or cigar) nearly as much as cigarette smokers smoke cigs.
Take a deep breath. Try it if you think you'll like it. Read up on the reduced risk of oral cancers compared to cigarettes. Make your own decisions.

>>2232942 Exactly. Nothing even remotely related to being /out/ for 100 miles, when fags here know that when all they get is a park and maybe a shitty trail without significant travel, that's as /out/ as they can get. But no. This guy wants us all to believe there are no parks within 100 miles, not even a strip of grass where he can walk.
Or is it because someone SoCiEtY won't let him?
Or is it because he's afraid of what people might think if he takes a walk down the road?
Or is it simply because he thinks the only thing /out/ is a national park and refuses to do anything less than full-on primitive camping beyond the reach of a cell phone signal?

A national park is a tourist attraction. Often, commercial transportation services will include such places in their itineraries, such that people who wish to visit may do so without a car. Do a little searching instead of feeling sorry for yourself.

>>2232963 >teach me to drive We live in a time of technological wonders, what the fuck are you doing?
https://www.google.com/search?q=YouTube%20learn%20to%20drive%20 Watch instructional videos and get a learner's license (if your state/country has such a thing), you usually only have to pass a written test. Then ask to practice on someone's car until you feel ready to take the actual test. Brainless niggers can do it, why can't you? Alternatively, buy a racing wheel and pedals for your computer and download some sort of realistic racing game. It's not an ideal simulation, but it's way better than nothing. Plus you'll learn about racing lines and automotive parts n shiet.
Or do what normal people who don't have an opportunity to learn from their parents do, and take a driver's education course. The instructor will teach you to drive and then you take your exam at the end of it. Jesus christ.
